DESIGN NAME: Eget
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Desk
INSPIRATION: From the observation of modern furniture in the field of work spaces we considered it necessary to create solutions that adapt to new work habits. Nowadays, mobile devices and other digital tools are fully merged into our working and studying habits. Hence, we reflected on the interaction between users, these tools and furniture and sought to smooth the relationship between them.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Eget is an innovative workspace adapted to new working habits and the use of new technologies. It is an interactive product that allows the user to reorganise his/her space and create a personalised ambience in terms of light, sound and the use of several smart features.
With a painstaking design and manufactured using high-quality materials, it combines a wooden tabletop featuring rounded edges with an open drawer underneath, providing plenty of space while also maintaining a minimalist look.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The innovations this desktop presents include a wireless charger and a hidden connection system with four USB ports and four plugs. There are several storage spaces at the top, offering a better organization of cables and other desk accessories. It also has a built-in magnetic board as well as a motion sensitive light on its top, with several intensity settings. Finally, it features a removable acoustic separator, allowing the user to choose between a cocooned environment and a rather open one.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2017 in Barcelona and finished in April 2018 also in Barcelona. The resulting product was exhibited in Ventura Future, an exhibiting space located in Lambrate Design District, during the Milan Design Week 2018 (17-22 April).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design research arises from the reflection of what design is and how it is set out in the field of home furnishing and workspace design. We concluded that conventional furniture does not adapt to new working habits and we detected the need to redesign and adapt these products to the use of new technologies and digital devices. We also researched on interactive design and how it adapts to the user’s needs, concluding that it is much more attractive for final users than the alternative.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenges of the project consisted on integrating all the elements we considered necessary to include in a workspace focused on the use of technology while maintaining a spacious working and storage area. It was also important to ensure an interaction between the product and the user, making the former as customizable as possible. Finally, in regards of the aesthetics of the piece, we wanted to achieve a painstaking design, thus generating a warm and comfortable atmosphere to work.
