| DESIGN NAME: Mandalas PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rings INSPIRATION: Mandala is a sacred geometric symbol in buddhism and other spiritual traditions, being interpreted as two-dimentional model of universe, a representation of its internal order and clearance. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Mandalas" ring series translate sacred oriental ornaments into jewellery design language using innovative materials. Series consist of three items, each one represents a different mandala. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The rings have non-traditional shanks which have the design that corresponds with the design of the mandala itself. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2018 in Moscow and finished in May 2018, and was exhibited in the Museum of Amber in Kaliningrad. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Silver, anodized titanium, rauchtopaz gemstone. Texturing, polishing. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 53 x 53 x 26; 53 x 53 x 27; 50 x 50 x 24 TAGS: titanium, silver, geometry, ornament, buddhism, sacred RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The objective of the research was to investigate the visual variability of traditional mandalas in the tibetan schools of buddhism. CHALLENGE: Each detail of a traditional mandala has its sacred meaning, so it was really important to preserve the internal order of the constrution of the pattern. NAME: Alchemia Jewellery PROFILE: Alchemia Designers' Jewellery brand is located in Moscow, Russia. It was founded by two MARCHI graduates (now British Higher School of Art and Design tutors) Igor Komov and Katerina Komova. Alchemia aims to create aesthetically-charged jewellery and each its collection is some king of investigation of a certain theme. Artworks of Alchemia Jewellery are represented in several museums of Russia. |
