Dehumidifying Box for Lens

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Lens Dryer

INSPIRATION:
This is a professional dryer for lens that can be used for small space dehumidification. In the process of use, it can indicate the degree of moisture absorption through color changes. The realization of its functions depends on the material characteristics of cobalt-free color-changing silica gel inside. This material can be reused after heating, and it will not cause pollution to the environment, which is in line with the concept of green environmental protection.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
It creates a dry space for the photographic equipment, and is simpler to use than other lens dryers on sale. Its compact size allows it to be used in more scenarios (you can put it in a lens storage box or pack it into a lens backpack). Besides, it costs less and is more environmentally friendly.Its shape is inspired by the lens, and its translucent material on the top allows us to easily observe changes in the color of the internal desiccant to assess moisture absorption.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The smaller dryer allows it to be placed directly into the lens storage bin or into the lens backpack. During use, we can assess the degree of moisture absorption by observing the color change through the transparent window at the top of the dehumidification box. When the internal silica gel particles absorb moisture and completely change the color, it can be restored to the original color by heating it in a microwave oven, so that it can be reused, and the heating temperature is preferably 100 to 120 °C. After repeated use for many times, the internal silica gel particles will be worn out, so we can open the lid on the bottom of the dehumidification box to add silica gel.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The concept design started in Jau 2018 in Beijing and finished in april 2018 in Beijing.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The polypropylene shell material has good heat resistance and can be directly heated in a microwave oven without generating harmful gases. The internal cobalt-free color-changing silica gel can be restored from a hygroscopic state to a dry state by heating at a high temperature of 100-120 ° C, and its color is also restored from green to orange, so that it can be reused.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Green design is an important way to solve current and future problems. Less resource consumption and less environmental impact should be the design principles of designers. We need more sustainable, flexible and different product design proposals from the past! Based on this design concept, we designed this dehumidifier.We expect people to be able to protect photographic equipment at a lower cost.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge of this design is that we have to find a desiccant that meets our needs. We need materials that do not harm the environment during use and do not pose a safety hazard to users, so we analyzed many materials. In addition, we also need to plan how users use them based on material characteristics.
