| DESIGN NAME: Wunderkammer PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: The client is a successful enterprise owner who is a seasoned collector of all types of artistic works with impeccable aesthetic taste. When the design team received this design commission, in response to the client's needs, the plan was to proceed to redo the overall layout and circulation plan, while based on inspirations from owner's rich art collection, through strong yet harmonious color contrast, naturalistic material transition, coupled with branded furniture, in creating space and form with great themes of meticulous fusion of east and west. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In spite of limited space area, the design team strived for creating an infinite sense of space, with exquisite vista piece of Oriental Romanticism in the entrance, complemented by transparency through the glass partitioning in the study, the high-quality materials of the main wall, the master painting, and the classic furniture, as a crystallized timeless vista of beauty the design team intended to imbue in the space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Regarding the integration of the full height sliding door in the living room, the design team first considered the sufficient weight-bearing capacity, as well as the ease of use, with accurate calculation, and secondly, the metal piece of study partitioning was treated with special powder-spray-painted PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2016 and finished in February 2017 in Taipei City. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As the client has great respect for the design profession, the design team was able to realize almost all of our material selections, as the grandeur of the main wall in the living room being the centerpiece of the public area, and apart from the large-capacity storage slots behind the multiple sliding doors, 2 sets of inserted showcasing slotted cabinets, all of which allow the right kind of art-gallery-like aura to permeate the residence. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: As the first order of business for this project was to rigorously review the space layout and plan. And considering the occupancy population being relatively simple, the design team proposed to allocate the majority of the space area to the public area, as bedrooms area, with functions of walk-in closet and bathroom, was designed with highly practical and security consideration. TAGS: East and West Synergy, Luxury, Natural Masonry Materials, Artwork, Metal Work Items, Christopher Guy RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As the client is an avid art lover with personalized taste and aesthetic conviction, therefore how to bring so many masterpieces together while fusing with the space with intrigue and spectacle, becomes the core creative drive of this project, with many points of design consideration in entrance, living room, dining and kitchen area, study and bedrooms, demonstrating the boldness and attentiveness to design detailing. CHALLENGE: As the design was to solve all kinds of problems in the living space and to create a wonderful sense of comfort and quality for the occupants, so all design must address the living aspect of occupants and all possible subsequent maintenance issues. The most difficult aspect of on-site work centered around the dining-kitchen areas and the bathroom where water, electricity, and heating converge, so all wiring and plumbing must be carefully considered.
