| DESIGN NAME: Light Loft PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: As the design team believes that design should not only emphasize the functionality but also focuses on the profound linkage between life and emotion. Therefore, through our firm belief in the people first concept, the design team work to learn about the life experience, habits, and history of the occupants to form the fundamentals behind the design concepts, which are then realized in the aesthetic space atmosphere and thinking. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With industrial styling being our main design discourse, the design team strived to add warmth elements to the vast domains of the site, space, and territories, in accumulating abundant cultural textures, and as we perfectly balance the co-existing expressions of robust and finesse in our spatial design. The design team was interested in playing with the delicate shifts of light and shade, in the usage of a hanging wooden frame, white checkered windows, shutters, and other designs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In response to the wish of the client to have a dedicated display space of his doll collection, the design team adopted the multifunctional applications design approach to make full use of the space, and the design team will integrate the functions of display, storage, and entertainment into a metal cabinet, as the surface is treated with a common display glass with lattice mesh and hooks to replace the conventional glasses, with well-ventilated features. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In order to create a simple and elegant texture particular to traits of light industries, the walls are treated in architectural cement paint, and as complemented by other elements to shape a more relaxed and comfortable tone of space. The main wall is paved with imported Italian tile, and one of the other walls was painted with black lacquer and magnetic paint so as to allow the client's unconstrained creativity to solidify into formal semantics and graphics. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This design project is the renovation of a 55 square meters bedroom space that seeks to not conforming to the formality of ordinary design process, but thereby establish a boundary between sleep and work, while allowing free-flowing movement. In view of the interest of the client in fitness, yoga, guitar, and basketball, etc., the design team creatively and precisely divided the space into modules to cater for various events, hence creating a multifunctional work out area. TAGS: Industrial Styling, Robust, Human Consideration, Light And Shadow Layering, Finished Concrete, Metal Elements, Timber Material RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As the young clients, who are freedom-seeking and sensitive, both lovers of movies and respective movie comic dolls, the design team believed that finding a place that can facilitate the transition of moods should be the ultimate significance of living and life, which is mirrored by the spatial narrative designed, as we strive to outline the relationship between reality and dreams through materials, light, and shadow, and ambiance, so as to give the space its sense of calmness and infinity. CHALLENGE: The most difficult challenge, in this project, is how to reconcile the needs of young clients, and the expectations of their elders. The design team deployed simple techniques to blend in with the artistic tastes and life value set of the clients, through the fresh-looking furniture, decorations, and lighting, etc., so as to give the space a warm and genuine human condition, and allowing the clients’ elders to have a different perception of industrial styling.
