DESIGN NAME: Delta
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Placemat Set
INSPIRATION: Delta is mainly inspired by abstract geometry, combining the purity of straight lines with the looseness of using different angles and no pattern to follow.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Delta is a placemat set made of designer felt. Felt is an excelent material to protect furniture from heat and liquids and Delta is the perfect accessory to add cozyness and interest to table setting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Delta Placemat Set is both functional and decorative. Its main purpose is to protect surfaces from humidity and both cold and hot temperatures up to 180°C.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is part of a larger project that implies the design and manufacture of personal and home products made mainly of Designer Felt. This particular design took about two weeks to be designed, in October 2017 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Designer Felt is felt made through an industrial process that results in a compact material made out of fibers. Delta is made with laser cut technology so that material gets a perfect finish in its edges.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Placemat: 30 x 29,5 cm
Trivet: 17,2 x 17 cm
Coaster: 9 x 8,7 cm
TAGS: Felt, Placemat, Coaster, Uruguay, Montevideo, Laser Cut
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Empirical research was mainly conducted on the reaction of the material to laser cutting, in order to achieve a perfect finish on the edges without burning or tainting the material. Also to determine the perfect width separation between cuts without compromising the rigidity the product needs to work properly.
CHALLENGE: The creative process involved mainly searching for a pattern that would work properly for the dimensions and proportions of the three products that conform the set. We also had to find the perfect way for the application of the brand to suit the needs of each product, mainly from a production perspective.
