DESIGN NAME: The Future Sees You
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Installation
INSPIRATION: Our aim was to launch a new design campus through the creation of a dynamic projection installation. We wanted to share the students hopes and dreams to the public, therefore we filmed their eyes with the aim to capture the intimate beauty of the optimism embraced by the young creative adult, the future thinkers, innovators, designers and artists of our world.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project was back projected out of a building, rather than mapping into it, the only project to do so during the White Night Festival. This was a unique point of difference that influenced the projection to be hugely successful during the event. Over 17 individual projections were projected through 32 windows of the building creating a unique story of multiple visual engagements, that together worked as one beautiful visual engagement.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The interaction for this installation is to be viewed from the ground, the public are to engage with the eyes and create their own interpretation of the symbolism of these. Who are the owner of these eyes, what are they thinking, why are some sharing different emotions?
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The installation was part of White Night Melbourne, an evening art festival. It was presented on one of the main street of Melbourne's Flinders Street, our building being directed opposite the iconic Federation Square. The event went for the entire evening for 12 hours from 7pm - 7am.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We relied on a huge range of equipment for this project including:
20 Projectors
21 Imacs
32 Windows
A team of 20 to bump it in
Endless metres of power cords!
Adobe software Premiere, Photoshop and After Effect was used to create the individual films. Each film was limited to a small duration - no more than 5 seconds, challenging the designer to ensure the emotion was able to be communicated in such a small timeframe.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: It was big! The installation was created over 5 storeys and was projected through 32 windows using 17 projectors. Each projecyor had its own film and Imac assigned to it. This was a main strategy for the development of the project. The individual films ensured there were no additional issues in attempting to connect projectors over different floors .

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Ethnography research was applied to observed and record the emotions of a group of culturally diverse young people when prompted with a personal question. Who do you love? When did you cry last. What are your hopes? These questions are to prompt raw and honest reactions from the participants, these future creatives.
CHALLENGE: The challenge for this installation was to ensure that each projection ( over 17!) worked coherently together as the one story. On site we had to do many iterations of each individual projection to ensure the vibrancy of the colour and emotion of the eyes would be communicated together as one final visual engagement.
