| DESIGN NAME: Round PRIMARY FUNCTION: Home Decorative Objects INSPIRATION: We were inspired by the pagoda architecture of Thailand, which has several tiers and circulate from the bottom to the top. We are buddhists and be familiar to the Thai temple since we were child. We came up with this inspiration when we started to design our new product. The bamboo coiling techniques match up with the feature of the pagoda in the temple. And the form of the pagoda attracted our heart. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design presents new perspective of woven techniques, which is a combination of nature and metal. The collections is composed of contrast materials namely bamboo, brass and marble, which are interesting combination. The collection presents and elegant approach to fusion materials, fine texture and charming forms.The production makes by hand with the aid of tools. Every piece is unique and high quality. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Craft is the method for understanding of the working of universe. We use our physical to process of crafting. Craft is like a song of nature that have their own harmony and rhythm. We made step by step until finishing. It looks like we play the same song but never be the same. That is enchantment of crafts. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design dedicated to craft practices and contemporary aesthetics. We applied bamboo coiling techniques, which is a kind of traditional technique, this method requires stiff materials to form a shape first, then soft materials such as bamboo strips are woven in coil round the object. We coiled between bamboo strips with brass strips together in order to discover new pattern. The rhythm of metal reflects lighting. And marble is shiny. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: mirror 100mm xH350mm xW250mm. short vase 100mm x 130mm. tall vase 100mm x 270mm. short container 100mm x90m. tall container 100mm x130mm big pendent lighting 430mm x600mm. small pendent lighting 160mm x 300mm. TAGS: weaving, art, objects, craftsmanship, home decorative items RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We have learned that the principle of traditional weaving techniques are similar either in Thailand or other countries. The differences of weaving depend on form and decorating details, which affected by geography, people, culture and history. However, The imagination of people be boundless and unique. We believe in spirit and power of creativity. The collection explore and play with several materials until find out the new perspective of weaving. We interpret weaving techniques in our language and tell our story through the products, which depend on our context, imagination and experience. Formal elements of this collection composed of the art and functionality. We convert them into our style and make them timeless. CHALLENGE: Because this techniques is required high skill to combine bamboo and metal together. It takes a long time to learn and make a prototype.
