| DESIGN NAME: The Dunes PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: living in the Netherlands, inspired by nature, water, sand and air is a constant source of inspiration for designing jewellery, in this design i was inspired by dunes, water and air and their never ending contact, together they form a habitat were we can live, enjoy and work, they create a very save, unique and colorfull surrounding witch is represented by this rare diamond, the water always touches the sand at least at one point and the air is playing with the shadows on the dunes UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ring made of 18 carat palladium white gold, opened up in a way you can look at every angle inside and out of the ring, the outer rings are only touching by one point on top, set with a diamondcut, not to be found anywhere in the world, weighing 2.42 carat colored greenish Yellow, 32 facets, 2 collet OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The most important feature is the open design of the setting and the fact that the setting is hanging between the outer two rings with only two small balls. this unique stone has a special way of treating the light and because the two collet are excactly oposite of eachother, there are no distruptions, all the lines of the dunes come together in the ball below the stone. because the stone is greenisch yellow it will constantly addapt to the light and display the variety of colours in a surprising way PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The manufactering of this project started January 2018 in Hoofddorp the Netherlands with designing drawing, printing , casting, welding and finishing and was finished second half of March, The ring has since been displayed in several occasions and private showings as well hits the front page of Haarlemmermeer into business spring edition |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ring is designed on 3d designprogram Matrix, The wax model is printed in 3d wax components and casted in 9 parts 18 karat palladiumwhite gold, hand finished and welded together with 18k solder, the diamond is set with 8 paws pointed towards the center, the ring is hand polished and the color is real, there are no rhodium layers applied because using cyanide baths do not fit my durability program SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ring size 17.0, 3x wires are max 2,4 mm in diameter and min 0,5 mm in diameter, 2x balls 3,2 mm and 5x balls 1,62 mm, total width frontview 23,4 mm. frontview height 29 mm, width sideview 11,11 mm material is 18k palladium white gold, diamond 2.42 ct, 9,03 mm in diameter, 6,53 in height, colour is greenish yellow, The Cut is exceptionall rare. total weight of the ring is 10,2 gram TAGS: Dunes, Flow, Water, Air, White, Gold, Balls, Jewellery RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I locked myself in a hotel for three days near the Dutch beaches of Cadsand, in the provence of Zeeland, The Netherlands to get inspired by the dunes and sands on the waterfront of the north sea, translating the dunes, water and air into a ring, this water is now represented by the outer rings and balls ever coëxisthing with dunes, the changing colors of the air and shadows on the dunes are a well appreciated source of inspiration. To translate all this in one ring has been a powerfull learning yourney, to overcome the technical problems was a matter of time and perseverance, many experimental models were made to finish this ring CHALLENGE: Creating the correct dimensions and realise the flow of the dunes, from small under to big on top and fading away under the central part of the ring.
