DESIGN NAME: BITree

INSPIRATION: BITree touchdown station gets its inspiration from the school sign of Beijing Institute of Technology. The sign of BIT indicates the vision that each student comes around all over the world to get their education- and BIT is the place where they embrace each other and therefore make things happen. What we are expecting of BITree coincides with this idea.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: BITree Touchdown, as a stand-up workstation, is an integral part of the co-working space. BITree Touchdown not only provides coworker with a relaxing and interactive space, but also allows the coworker to select adaptable work surfaces of different heights and functions according to actual needs. It is hoped that through this design, people will feel and explore the interactive, interests and possibilities of the future work space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Short-term relaxing or activities. Includes quick research on your phone, drinking a cup of coffee or just playing something shortly.
A part of the activities which are taking place there could also be eating a quick meal or having a talk on your break from working.
Since it is standing in the entrance we also think that it will be a first contact point for the people entering. They may use the table as a guide to the inner space. If they need to wait for someone they can have a rest at the table or place some heavy things on it.
In case that there is no free working space, they can also use the table as a working desk until some free space opens up.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2017 and finished in January 2018, and was exhibited in Art Gallery in Beijing Institute of Technology in January 2018.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Learning about the theories on how a co-working space may be organized and structured, the most important step that follows is going to the place we are going to design and see how this space works. We tried out different methods to see how we interact with the space and to watch out for any particularities that we need to consider. In the exhibition, we had a test in which we wanted to see how people interact with the space and to watch out for any particularities that we need to consider to make a promotion.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was the future element that needed to be added to the table. A Future element as a part in the table that is expected to let people imagine what future working space would be like. As we have finally insert a pleated acoustic paper into each the end of the table for users to pull it out to make a sound-proof screen. Then users could enjoy a separate working or relaxing space anytime in need.
