DESIGN NAME: Teawood Mega Box
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant and cafe
INSPIRATION: The restaurant locates in a family mall, which target customer is family. Design concept Gift box brings delighted attractiveness and magical memory for everyone and also expresses happiness and love, which are the core value of family. The mall is called Mega box, and it is interesting to have a special gift inside this mega box to enrich the harmony and cheerful lively atmosphere.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Designer builds the upper part of the column as piano keys to dilute the oddly height, and this creation also brings joyful tone to present the design concept Gift Box. Moreover, hanging different size of gift boxes from the ceiling also delights the place and wipe out the strange proportion. Gift Box is a symbol of joy and a creation of magical memory for everyone and also express happiness and love.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Huge entrance and eye catching door with lots of metallic boxes hanging from the ceiling attracts the diner. Once entered, on the left, a beautiful wooden bread shelf placing with freshly baked breads and diner can see the baker working through a huge glass. On the right is the dining area where the tall ceiling with numerous gift boxes over diners head. When the sunbeam shines into the restaurant, the metallic boxes blink and create fantastic reflection and here is a joyful place for dining.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started and finished in 2016 in Hong Kong

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The harmony design brings all kind of customers in different age and well fit the all day menu that restaurant provided. The grand entrance wall and part of the interior walls have delicate strips on the wood; this special treatment makes the ordinary timber to become gift wrapping paper of this Gift Box.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of Research. Qualitative Research. Objectives. To know the dinning habit in district and familiar with the competitor strategy for formulating the best design. Methodology. Meeting with the management office of the mall to get customers behavior and statistic. Result and Insight. Most of the table setting should be in 4 to 6 seats and the colour tone and the customer is mainly family.
CHALLENGE: Tall in height but short in width makes this restaurant in a strange proportion and is in irregular shape. To dilute the messy feel, designer builds the upper part of the column as piano keys, which also enhances the joyful tone. Moreover, hanging different size of gift boxes from the ceiling also delights the place and wipe out the strange proportion.
