| DESIGN NAME: Mortise-tenon joint stationery PRIMARY FUNCTION: Adjustable lamp,Storage box,Ink-stone INSPIRATION: Mortise and tenon is a unique handicraft in China tracing back to five thousand years ago. But in modern times, the application of tenon and mortise is less and less. The technology of mortise and tenon is only used on the rosewood custom furniture. Our initial idea is to combine mortise with modern products and to strengthen the application of tenon and mortise,and inherit and promote the Chinese unique handicraft. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 1.The controllable lamp based on its shape to combine with the lamp adapts the most commonly used tenon (spar with T-shaped legging doorpost mouth), so that it has good stability, but not lack of modern artistic aesthetics. The original mortise and tenon was be modified so as to make it more flexible on the basis of the original mortise and tenon.When rotating the shaft at the end of the rotating light bar, the intensity of the light can be adjusted at will. 2.Weiqi fun box is most widely used the straight tenon in mortise and tenon. The storage box is divided into three parts, the top composed of 25 hollow square bars, just can store black and white chesses, the gap between the square bars can be applied to clip Cards or name cards; The crossing box in the middle part can be used to place he small objects (such as pins, pins etc.); the bottom part of the box can be used for placing a note or memorandum. The multi-functional storage box is a small helper on the table.When you are busy with the work, playing a game of Go is used to relieve the fatigue of the work and relax the body and mind. 3.The Ink-stone shape is adopted the pin plate and tenon-horse（Zouma pin）of the most representatives of the unique lace partial large furniture, and the four sides are respectively provided with a pen slot and Paperweight, the design of the middle Ink-stone curve is better to place the brushes and more convenient to ink. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First, investigate and analyze the basic characteristics of Chinese traditional mortise and tenon joints, and think about and extract traditional elements.Then, linking with the actual needs of contemporary life, we draw lots of sketches of traditional square mortise and mortise joint with modern life.Finally, the team will negotiate the final plan, design the 3D model, output the data, make the handwork, and finally finish the completion of the physical model. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Handmade , CNC carved, Cherry, beech, black walnut SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The square box: 155mm*155mm*190mm; Lamp’s body: 40mm*400mm; lamp’s leg: 40mm*40mm*180mm; Ink-stone: 370mm*300mm*45mm. TAGS: Mortise and tenon / stationery / handicraft / tradition RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Tenon is the essence of ancient wood of Chinese since thousands of years, which is the soul of the Chinese traditional wooden art, and full of sense of complex (Ling Long), precise sense and unique artistic beauty. Tenon itself reflects the ancients "Chinese" harmony between man and nature, both yin and Yang ", and the original wood is a kind of material which is easy to be effected by the weather, but through the combination between the tenon, this effect is slowly emerged to a delicate balance. CHALLENGE: The biggest problem we have encountered is how to combine the mortise and mortise structure with the modern life, and how to make it innovative. Tenon and mortise is basically used as a structure in the past, but I want to make the design a with the life breath and clearly showing the charm and interest of the mortise and tenon itself.
