Book design

INSPIRATION:
The Chinese folk arts bear distinct national and geographical characteristics. Its cultural implication and art form accumulate a historical culture of 7,000-8,000 years dating back to primitive society. Now, Chinese traditional folk culture is facing a crisis of survival, and folk artists are passing away, and many folk arts are dying out. The book design is intended to show the charm of folk arts, make people pay attention to traditional culture and inherit folk arts.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The book design presents the beauty of Chinese folk arts. This is a total of eight books, about Chinese folk technology and materials. The content includes textile arts, Papercuts, New Year pictures, embroidery, stone carving, brick carving, wood carving, silver accessories. Extracting symbolic language from classical patterns, following the plane formation, rearranging the characters, graphics and color blocks, to interpret the major cultural heritage of China.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Each book is a separate individual and can be read independently. Eight books combine to become a series of book, when you read the whole books, different brochures have different emphasis on content and style on design. The flannelette bag is a special design, its manual sense highlights the theme of folk arts, it like a book box to protect the book. The bag's red lines, red in the pages and the book binding red lines are the clue where visual and interaction design overlaps.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in June 2012 in Dalian China and finished in September 2012 in Shenyang China. The book design published in China Design Year Book Volume eighth in December 2012.It was exhibited in LAFA Art Museum in 2016, and the related design was exhibited in 2016 International Invitation Exhibition in Hongik University Seoul Kroea.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Viewed from material, through the material of different texture, show subtle emotion changes, such as different sense of touch between paper and flannelette. Viewed from bookbinding, inspiration comes from traditional Chinese Thread bound, material of binding thread is red line of Chinese knot. Viewed from color, Red is the clue, including binding red lines, red ropes of bag, red in the pages and so on. The color changes are also reflected in yellow handmade papers and pure white papers.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The creators of Chinese folk art come from the working class masses of China's rural areas. They are mostly female laborers. A communal art, folk art would engender all of Chinese literature and all later art. Its presence is evident in everyday food, clothing, shelter and transportation; in traditional festivals, ceremonies and rituals, and in beliefs and taboos. As a living example of cultural heritage, it shows Chinese culture boasts the longest history and the richest historical sources.

CHALLENGE:
The creative challenge is as follows, firstly, extract sign language from the pattern of traditional craft, because Chinese folk is broad and profound, I want establish a Visual pleasure ground on traditional Chinese culture. Secondly, the layout of characters, texts, graphics, color, painting blank and other visual elements in the book, the relationship between complex and simple, detailed and abbreviated. Thirdly, when the viewer's sight changes, the picture creates time flow and spatial level.

Luxun Academy Of Fine Arts

PROFILE:
The predecessor of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts was the Yanan-based Luxun Arts College founded in April 1938 by Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, the first generation of CPC leadership. The college was relocated to Northeast China in 1945 and was renamed as Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in 1958.Fine tradition of integrating art production with social practice has been carried out in full form. A great number of classics have been produced and the great art heritage of China and foreign countries has been carried on. LAFA also practices the educational ideology of creating new national art. Numerous years of experience enables LAFA as a prestigious educational institution featuring powerful faculty, full-coverage of art sectors. It will become an art institution of domestic and international leverage.
