PRIMARY FUNCTION: Website
INSPIRATION: The inspiration of the website design came from the Pininfarina design DNA of purity, elegance and innovation. We wanted to create a memory of beauty and a website in the true meaning of the definition of Pinin-Farina which means sense of proportion, simplicity and harmony of line.
Our motive was to create a website with a perfect balance between design and functionality reflecting our prestigious electric bike Pininfarina Evoluzione.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The website of the Pininfarina Evoluzione electric bike is designed in a completely different way from how the bike industry usually designs websites. This website focuses entirely on the beauty of the product, keeping the site in line with the simplicity and exclusivity of the award winning Pininfarina brand. In modern communication the term "product is king" and "less is more" describes our way of thinking. The e-bike speaks for itself which is what we are saying with our communication.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Pininfarina Evoluzione website has simple and understandable call-to-action buttons in the navigation bar and in the footer which makes the entire experience as intuitive as possible. Furthermore the website avoids action features and special effects that can obtain focus and disturb the user from their subjective phenomenological experience of the design and the product. In that way the website interacts with the user by letting the product speak entirely for itself.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The development started in the beginning January 2018. We started in Modena, Italy, discussing various expressions of web-design and finalized in the end of February 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Apeldoorn, The Netherlands.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The website was structured in a combination between the visual web-design program Squarespace and HTML code. The visual content, images and pictures where selected in a four step method: Going through visual content, choosing content, adjusting sizes and colors in Adobe Photoshop and uploading the content online. Regarding the textual content we first shared all our thoughts and specifications. Afterwards we summarized and abstracted the most essential information to be released on the website.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Pininfarina Evoluzione website consists of 5 unique pages and is built on the Squarespace platform. We decided to use Squarespace because of their special design features and functionalities. Squarespace is a program and service based content management system that integrates website design and building, e-commerce and domain registration.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our aim was to create a simple and elegant Pininfarina website and make it different from how the bike industry usually creates websites. The data collection was made by our technical e-bike specialists and the design by our graphic department. We did research in to various design and CMS platforms to be able to choose the best way to create our website. We decided to use Squarespace CMS also because of their award winning work place environment ranked by Forbes and Times magazine.
CHALLENGE: The story of Pininfarina reflects passion for new technologies and states that design is the instrument to humanize innovation. Besides creating an elegant product page that updates the user on electric bike innovation the challenge was to include and tell the story about the classic Pininfarina brand. In the about section we aimed to present a new and innovative product and at the same time lead the user from the past, to the present and in to the future by providing the history of Pininfarina.
