| DESIGN NAME: Undefined Y PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multi Module Furniture System INSPIRATION: While thinking of the design concept of Undefined Y, We get inspiration from the cell structure and geometry of nature, and bring a multi modular design ideas into this product, through multi-modular features, we hope to increase various functions of products, and extend the lifespan of the product, so as to achieve the purpose of reducing the waste of resources. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Undefined Y is a multi module furniture system, which includes component y, sphere connector, straight connector, end connector, trestle connector, and LED module by assembling several components y with different angel connectors, it creates a series of different functional products, such as light system, screen, trestle table, and even space. Through this design features to extend the lifespan of the product, so as to achieve the purpose of reducing the waste of resources. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: All components can be intuitively assembled and disassembled. It’s easy to make user to assemble the products to fulfill the requirement of different spaces. At the same time, it will enhance the repair and replacement of convenience and saving transport and storage space. LED modules can be easily assembled with any component y. Thus, it creates diverse atmosphere around our space by different color temperature and beam angles of the light. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2015 in Shanghai and finished in April 2018 in Taiwan, and was exhibited in SaloneSatellite in April 2018. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In the material and manufacturing, we use plastic injection molding, and make use of advantage of multi-modular design while maximizing variously product functions, so as to minimize the consumption of mold production and production costs. In the future, we will keep exploring more possibilities of assembling, and focus on developing a series of connectors in diversity angles, the UY will have more various functions, and beyond your imagination. CHALLENGE: Undefined Y is the multi function modular design rather than a single function product design. It challenges the traditional business model and definition of product functionality, and makes attempt to create innovative concept of consumption and product life cycle, and then to reach the positive cycle whether for consumer, manufacturer or even environment. NAME: HSIANG HAN DESIGN PROFILE: HSIANG HAN DESIGN is the multi-disciplinary design studio based in Taiwan & Shanghai. His design inspired by nature, especially concentrate on the exploration of biological structure and technology. The range cover lighting, furniture objects, environment detecting devices, kid toys, tech products and even concept design. The studio is expert in cooperating with domestic and foreign industry (plastic, 3D Printer, glass, marble, ceramic, wood, electronic technology…etc), dedicated to research materials recycling and production process innovation and mass production. |
