| DESIGN NAME: SiSu PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench INSPIRATION: The SiSu bench is a single surface making a product by turning around, it's inspired by simplicity of a straight line which can making everything just with moving. This is a flow and smooth surface made from concrete. The philosophy of SiSu is simplicity, in form, production process and structure. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: SiSu (abbreviated form of “Single Surface”) with its eye-catching design tries to redefine that how much a single object such as a bench can be simple and yet beautiful. It is a minimal and modern bench, easy to produce and inexpensive, because it contains only one piece. There is a steel structure inside of SiSu, increases strength of the product, and make it more stable. Unlike most benches, SiSu is suitable for both sitting and lying down positions. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: SiSu designed to join aesthetic beauty and high functionality in daily product, the goal is to increase the level of a street furniture beauty and developing an emotional connection between people and product. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2017 in Tabriz, Iran and finished in February 2018 in Tabriz. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A simple manufacturing technology, utilizing metal bending, welding techniques and concrete molding. Production is easy and low cost. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 1700mm x Depth 500mm x Height 1050mm x Sitting Height 450mm TAGS: bench, minimal, public seats, street furniture, environment, urban, outdoor, modern, surface RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Two researches done during this project, first about construction and strength of materials to create a tough product with high durability. Second one was about surface design and refinement methods in complex products such as cars, military equipment and etc. Also civil Engineering calculation used to guarantee the bench strength. CHALLENGE: Usually, Keeping product as simple as possible is a target during the design process, but creating a vandal resistant, functional and attractive shape with only a single surface is a big challenge. Second challenge was to make this product stable and reliable to pass the engineering standards.
