DESIGN NAME: Wing
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shelving System
INSPIRATION: The shape of the steel elements that hold the plates was designed to enable the exchange of positions, creating dynamism and a light look to the set, in the same way as a flock of birds.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Wing Shelving System was designed to be gently integrated to the interiors. Taking advantage of modularity, its pieces form subtle and dynamic connections, generating an infinity of geometric compositions. Its perforated base allows the exchange of brackets position, giving the possibility of many variations according to space context and users necessities.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shelf's design aims to provide to the users a customization experience by giving them the possibility of creating their own compositions. Adding this to the fact that the piece was built in a very simple and transparent constructive system where the user can assemble the structure himself and chose the brackets positions, we may establish once more a connection between user and product, in a way he becomes an essencial part of the process.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2017 and finished in March 2018 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All the pieces of Wing Shelf were created with CNC technology. The shelf base is a perforated plate made of reforested pine wood and the steel brackets are simple cut and folded triangular pieces with small holes to allow its attachment. The fastening is made through small screws and nuts that can be easily inserted and removed.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product dimensions: 170mm x 640mm x 220mm (Height x Width x Depth)
Package dimensions: 96mm x 665mm x 235mm (Height x Width x Depth)

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As one of our guidelines, we started this project with the reflection on how we could create a shelf that could be a harmonious part of a modular system and therefore have a delicate but strong presence in interior spaces, not standing out as an individual product, but complementing and adding value to it. We studied shapes, materials and structural systems in order to get to the best result in terms of ease of assembly, visual harmony, possibility of customization and integration in multiple spaces.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge of this project was to create not a single shelf, but a system that could fill interior spaces through harmonious combinations. The intention was that the set could be fluid what we achieved through these small triangular pieces that connect the shelves and can be used in different ways.
