| DESIGN NAME: Exquisite Moon Dreamer PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tea set INSPIRATION: The tea set is inspired by the classic Chinese garden with harmonious combination of elements such as moon gate, Taihu stone, various carved windows, lake ripples and many other elements. Bring the taste of classic Chinese garden's aesthetic and exquisite craftsmanship together into the pot and cups, which also give the sense of quiet oriental aesthetic while enjoying tea. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The loop handle was inspired by the image of moon gate in classic Chinese gardens, in the shape of bridge connected with teapot. The teapot covered with classic elements commonly used in classic Chinese gardens-Taihu stone as knob, ripple layers as shape of lid. The interlayer of the silver cup can keep the cup from too hot to hold, the outer layer hollows all kinds of carved windows, what a delight! The artwork perfectly demonstrates the crossover of oriental garden architecture and tea sets. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: With the main function of a tea set, but unlike the others, Exquisite Moon Dreamer allows you to distinguish which cup you just used by the different hollows on the cup. The double layer design can keep the cup from too hot to hold. It is also a reborn of the intangible cultural heritage in daily life. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2017 in Nanjing China and finished in Janurary 2018 in Nanjing, and will exhibite in Triennale di Milano in April 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Gold wood grain technique, silver, copper SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Tea pot: Width 153mm x Height 172.5mm Cup: Width 66mm x Height 35mm Saucer: Width 110mm x Height 14.57mm TAGS: Tea set, Chinese garden, cultural involution, gold wood grain, floral window RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With the responsibility of protecting the traditional cultural heritage, we decided to make the amazing gold wood grain crafts and traditional aesthetic appear in modern life. We did many research base on the gold wood grain technique and how to recreate the special characteristic. CHALLENGE: With the process of accumulate 36 layers of silver and copper, go through high temperature and pressure then forging into silver plate, then thump, forge and engrave, the process is full of unknown challenges and joy. We hope that by manufacturing and producing these daily supplies, we can awake the ancient arts and handicrafts.
