DESIGN NAME:
Comfort Zone
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Bench
INSPIRATION:
The product was inspired by the wood lamination technology and the aim was to create the thinnest yet comfortable bench for waiting lounges.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Comfort Zone is a bench designed for interior spaces and waiting lounges for utmost comfort. The design combines contemporary materials in a way that supports repairability that promotes sustainable cycles in the long term. The cushioned parts are fixed on top of the wooden bench and can be replaced easily without disassembling the whole product. The seating surfaces also offer customisation with colours and materials for the use environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The bench is stackable, which makes transportation and storage easier with already assembled units. Featuring stainless steel, wood and plastics, the design presents an elegant, comfortable and dynamic choice for interiors.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was completed in 2018, Ankara, Turkey.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Comfort Zone combines stainless steel and wood layers as base materials. Cushioning surface is customisable and can be produced out of different types of materials including elastomers. According to interior design choice, textile could also be used in the cushioning parts.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Waiting lounge seating units are not usually designed for customisation and maintenance. Comfort Zone offers an easy to transport bench with replaceable parts.
CHALLENGE:
The challenge was to create a sustainable design that is easy to produce, disassemble, maintain and transport.
