INSPIRATION: We were inspired by an Eames quote: We wanted to make the best for the most for the least. Previously working at Apple and Honda, I was familiar with building high-quality products using manufacturing processes untraditional to the furniture industry. I knew we could design something better at an approachable price. Drawing inspiration from the auto industry, we wanted to design a strong frame and sell replacement parts and accessories so a piece could last a lifetime.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Campaign has re-engineered how to manufacture and ship furniture, delivering in days, assembling in minutes, and lasting a lifetime. We do this by designing around a precision built American-made steel frame. Unlike traditional upholstered furniture, our quality fabrics can be easily removed, allowing a consumer to change them at will. All our furniture is delivered in 4-7 business days and self assembles in under 10 minutes, with the solid-wood legs acting as the only tool needed to assemble.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We're the only furniture maker building pieces with steel frames and removable covers. Campaign is also the least expensive and fastest custom upholstered furniture you can buy. Products are delivered 4-7 business days after an order is placed. They arrive in two boxes and take 10 minutes to assemble, requiring no tools.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: All the research we completed for Campaign focused around ergonomics and reliability. Our research goals were focused around ensuring industry leading comfort and quality. We designed a series of experiments using full-scale test devices that simulate the dimensions, weight proportions and articulation of the human body instrumented to record data about the dynamic behavior of customer use. We concluded our seating can hold over 1800 lbs and will survive more than a lifetime of use.
CHALLENGE: There were three fundamental issues in the traditional furniture industry that we wanted solve: manufacturing practices, shipping, and consumer experience. Our constraints were fitting our furniture within the constraints of UPS and FedEx ground, finding new materials, making it light enough to carry, and designing assembly to require zero tools. We constantly removed parts and created components that served multiple purposes. The speed of shipping was just as important as assembly, quality, and ease of use.
