DESIGN NAME: Le Pont
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Cafe
INSPIRATION: The design was initially inspired by a phrase concerning about bridges; people have built too many walls but not enough bridges. From the inspiration of the phrase, Kamiodesign considered how to connect each space and customers physically, visually, and meaningfully, while putting a huge triangle void in the middle of the space. Also They considered to make a place where people can naturally share. The sequence of spaces was the most important key factor for the design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: At the entrance, visitors may find a white bridge and staircases in the void. The all contents such as bakery, lounge, coffee bar, and restaurant, are placed and connected to each other by surrounding the bridge and staircases. Not dividing the areas to smaller, but Kamiodesign arranged seating layouts and provided an open space through the 1st & 2nd floors. Spontaneous communications may occur between the guests by facing to each other. This is a place to connect and to share.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1st floor was designed as bakery and pastry cafe areas while 2nd floor was for full operation restaurant. Once customers come into the space, they may follow to the bakery and pastry sections and check what they have today. After a rounding trip on 1st floor, the customers may go up to the 2nd floor for seating and ordering. This movement may make a sequence of the spaces, a spontaneous connection of spaces, which is actually the main design concern.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After researching the restaurant market in the area, the design team decided to give the space some characteristics and own originalities by using graphical technics. Through millions of books, they collected the images about bread, Paris, and coffee to transform and to develop the new impressive graphic images. The researched images were scanned and traced with various design expressions, and those were applied into the steel works and the wall decorations.
CHALLENGE: The most challenging part of the project was the cost control and the selection of materials. Kamiodesign used many rough materials such as concrete to make some cost down. At the same time, they also used many graphical aspects, such as curving shaped stickers on windows, to keep elegancy. The steel works, such as stainless steel liners on walls, were very effective to make a space more dramatic and graceful even though they used the rough materials.
