DESIGN NAME: Iguchi Funabori
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hospital
INSPIRATION: The design was brought with an idea of combining dimensional planes into one space with various geometric expressions. Because this is a renal urology clinic and patients may feel more nervous comparing to other clinics, the client wished to make a space more luxury and something with an art feeling to give the patients more relaxing and extraordinary experiences. So, we focused on how we can make the space more art and fun. The geometric plane combination was one of our answers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The geometric pattern tiling and the dimensional lighting were applied to the lounge space. To develop a new design language, we applied several geometric patterns to the floor, walls, and ceiling with the emphasizing lighting system, and then we combined those aspects very carefully. While using two types of ceramic tiles for each wall, we decorated them in different directions to each other and tried to create some kind of the design movements to the space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The glass wall entrance may give visitors very clean and beautiful images. They may recognize all clinic contents easily just by standing in front of the clinic, and then they can understand where they actually have to go. They may follow and walk on the geometric pattern floor and will be naturally leaded to the sofa area. They can wait in the relax lounge as if they are in an art museum.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2017 in Tokyo and finished in February 2018 in Tokyo. Located in Funabori, Tokyo Japan

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Area : 115 sqm Geometric pattern tile walls : 1000 x 2500mm, 2500 x 2500mm, 10000 x 2500mm, 1500 x 2500mm indirect line light length : 50meter
TAGS: pattern wall, geometric tiles pattern, 3-dimension lighting, LED line light, hospital, clinic
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We tried to collect and study the tile patterns with different surface types, and then we matched them up to each other to figure out the original uniqueness. We analyzed how and what kind of rhythm the geometric patterns can give to a space.
CHALLENGE: The most challenging part was to connect the geometric patterns over through the floor, wall, and ceiling. We carefully planned to keep the sequence and the continuities of the lining art designs. We also used indirect line lightings among many edges to emphasize the art works more efficiently.
