DESIGN NAME: Fashion Misfits
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portrait Photography
INSPIRATION: The project is an inspiration from my daily interactions and life experiences as an artist, as a fellow contemporary human, as a friend, as an observer, as a student, as a daughter. I am often inspired by the delicate and melancholic moments of life and I try to recreate them from a cinematic point of view. Principles of design, cinema, vintage fashion and daily life remain my main source of inspiration.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a portrait series of girls with Down Syndrome to redefine beauty standards & open up a platform to encourage unconventional aesthetics. Disabled people have been an ignored part of our society & there is a need to explore the versatile interpretations of beauty & be more accepting. With this project, the artist wants to create a space in the fashion and advertising industry, ultimately to open channels catering to everyone,so that they can fashionably express themselves and be role models.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project was executed in a matter of 2 months. I met the models and the NGO co-ordinator several times prior to the shoot to be able to build a smooth communication rapport and trust between me and the models. After several meetings, we booked a day to make the portraits
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The idea of this project was conceived in 2015 but took 1 year to execute it. Finding an NGO that agreed with my vision was the toughest. Following that, finding the corresponding team members with the same level of enthusiasm and trust was another issue.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research was simple. Artistic portrait of people suffering from Downs Syndrome has never been done before. So as an artist, I had to research and create a visual style, a mood style, what colors i would use, what emotions i'd like to portray, what background and what light would suit the idea. I prepared a moodboard with all the collected to visual references to explain what I was envisioning
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to find the best of team members who believed in the idea. The biggest challenge was to convince the models and the family of the models which thankfully was easy. The next challenge was the production of the shoot, the logistics part mostly.
