| DESIGN NAME: Xtreat PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lounge Chair INSPIRATION: The main motive of this project was to create an artistic form with perfect comfort, a desirable object that can easily be employed in contemporary spaces, residences and offices. Main inspiration derives from the forms in nature. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Xtreat is a modern lounge chair created with natural materials and manual handwork. The hollow part in the backrest adds aestethic value to Xtreat, while maintaining ergonomy and comfort. The wooden shell of Xtreat provides the product with elegance with a touch of nature. The product is an object that interacts with feelings through its dynamic curves and antrophometric finishes. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Xtreat is an easy chair; users can just sit on it, flex their legs and make themselves comfortable, while experiencing the positive effect of possessing a hand crafted, sculptristic furniture in their spaces. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project finished in May 2017 in Izmir and has not been exhibited in anywhere yet. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Production was made with conventional materials and manual labour.Iroko wood was laminatel for the shell case. Different density foams were ergonomically used for seating.Seating upholstery is cow leather. The legs were laser cut steel. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width: 650mm Depth: 700mm Height : 1100mm TAGS: lounge chair, bergere, armchair, seating, easy chair, wing chair RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design started out with an idea of a sculpture, which is fun and comfortable to use. The design was revised numerous times to reach universal comfort. In the end, the product offers the users of different body types the most comfortable seating experiment. The wooden shell has been laminated 5cms of layers and shaped by hand machines. the seating consists of different density sponges, formed by manual labor. the cow leather upholstery was stitched in machines and upholstered manually. CHALLENGE: The product is a result of complete manual labor. Therefore, the production had to be executed by a very detailed one on one workshop process. The creation of the prototype has taken months of mutual work between the design crew and the crafts people.
