DESIGN NAME: Haara
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant Light
INSPIRATION: The Haara pendant light is inspired by our natural environment - its configuration embraces the freedom and determination of a strong, growing tree branch, while the hand-drawn glass pieces work harmoniously to emanate a tranquil glow at one with the serenity of nature.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The branching frame of the Haara pendant light has a delicate and finely engineered structure derived from close observation of nature. The frame is made up of individual segments each cut from a single piece of Brass or selected material. As with all our pieces, the Haara is made by hand in our London workshop. The cylindrical lanterns are assembled from hand-drawn glass and polished brass concealing the lighting element and creating a unique and beautiful lighting diffuser to be admired whether the light is on or off.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Haara light source is through LED lights and has a variety of colour temperature options. It is provided with a Triac dimmable driver as standard with wattage dependent on sizing. The drop height is customisable to suit the space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Haara pendant light took roughly two years of development from initial design through prototyping to final hand manufacture.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This Haara pendant was created using the materials of Brass and glass. Each segment of the branching frame is cut from a solid piece of Brass and then hollowed out to allow for the wiring to be completely hidden within. The highest quality LED lighting is used allowing for a bright linear light without the lighting element being seen. This is concealed by the unique cylindrical lanterns made up of 33 individually hand-drawn and positioned glass rods.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Haara is completely customisable in size and configuration but dimensions for the one shown is:
L165xH65xW75cm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The inspiration for the Haara came from nature and that is where the research started. The way in which tree branches shift in different directions, organically growing at varying angles and diverting contentedly around obstructing objects was observed and explored. From these observations we wanted to create something with an organic form that replicated the spontaneity and freedom of nature and from here hand sketches were done followed by 3D drawings before creating a plastic laser cut maquette. The research assisted with creating a piece which has infinite configuration options indicative of a genuine tree branch growing in nature.
CHALLENGE: Getting the balance right throughout the piece was an engineering challenge, as well as ensuring the technical elements were hidden. We also ship worldwide so the Haara needed to be sectioned so it could be shipped in parts and easily assembled on site.
