DESIGN NAME: The Keystone Collection
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stool/High Stool
INSPIRATION: Our inspiration was drawn from local bars and cafes. We noticed that more often than not the comfort of stools was sacrificed for a more favorable aesthetic. We sought to remedy this with our design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the Cafe, Bar or home kitchen of today; high quality, beautiful, and durable furniture is secondary only to the quality of , the coffee, beer, or delicious homemade meal and of course... the people who are sitting next to you.
Introducing the Keystone Series.
Minimally styled stacking cafe seating available in both short and tall formats that compliment each other nicely. Modular steel design allows for a huge range of customization colour options and aesthetic options.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: These stools are simple to use. Simply be seated as you usually would. The seats have cutaways on both sides to assist with picking them up and stacking them on top of one another.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in September of 2017 in Canberra, Australia.
The designs themselves we're not completed until the end of January 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We played with a lot of different options before landing on our current setup.
The seat is made from rolled aluminium and the legs are made from round steel bar which is CnC bend into shape and the crossbars welded in.
The parts are then painted separately to the individuals specifications.
We wanted to avoid welding the seat to the legs as that would not allow us to easily give colour options.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was done through Sebastian's work at a metal production business and online for alternative manufacturing methods.
Material research was done online to find high quality and cost effective suppliers and manufacturers.
All data collection was done either in person at bars and cafes as well as online to find the target market and need for the stools.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this designs was implementing the stacking function whilst keening a preferable aesthetic for the low stool.
