| DESIGN NAME: House of Silence PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: This is a house over 20-year-old, the overall structure were old, which means it needed comprehensive restructure. However, the challenge that we faced was, dweller had bought in large furniture such as sofa, dining table and bedstead before remodel. Therefore, atmosphere distribute by the furniture became the main planning point no matter from structure, color or ambience, at the same time fuse in calm and quite style which is the dweller’s favorite, created modern Zen residential. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The open public space widens our visual, at the same time a big window lead in natural light. There are a wood couch include storage capacity near the window. Steel bookcase as the main element at the other side of the wall, and created a study room for family members who love reading. To highlight the texture of warmth texture of wood, the television wall was rendered with grey brick. Cabinet in dining room is made dark color wood with simple and elegant pattern. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We have always been honored with the principle of subtractive design so that occupants can derive their unique sense of life. In response to the numerous art works by the owner, we hope that residence can shape like an art gallery. Therefore, we removed unnecessary elements, and leave it plain. Ventilation hall area reduces the large storage volume design that can be easily seen in common house, the flat ceiling is to avoid oppression made by the complicated liners. Besides, the seam as the modification brings in three-dimensional level to the simple space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2017 in Hsinchu, Taiwan and finished in August 2017. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We use Konishi eco-friendly bond CH38, Konishi eco-friendly bond fast-dry G10Z and formaldehyde free glue. All the building materials which include iron part, wood, wall cabinet and tiles are formaldehyde free. To use those materials is the way to reach the energy saving and carbon reduction goal. To give the owner a healthy life and a safe environment are our responsibility. From building material to glue, all we use are the non-toxic, eco-friendly products. To make a good design, we hope to make the goodness of the earth everlasting simultaneously. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Site area : 132 sq.m TAGS: Residence RESEARCH ABSTRACT: 1) To have a healing and comfortable Zen style living place. 2) We put the focus on the word Zen which reflects the taste of the owner. According to the furniture which already in the place, we brought the Zen aesthetics into the house by modernism way and create a unique, integrated, stress relief modern oriental aesthetics. 3) The specialty of Japanese Zen style is simple and serene. We realized the mixture of wood texture, dark color and gray, with the commodious feeling makes the place deep and quiet. The accordant lines make the space unify and be in accord with oriental image. 4) The key to create the fusion of modernism and Zen is atmosphere building and the retain of the original elements. CHALLENGE: We want to redefine Zen. The marrow of Zen is nonrepresentational. The simple feature is accord with modern style, so the key point is remaining the oriental elements. The most challenging part is to redesign the 20-years-old house with the old furniture. To design a space which catch good fusion of those furniture and the space is the goal we fight for. We believe the oriental style can be preserved, go with the time, but still keep its own spirit. Modern Zen is what we want to tell, redefine and rebuild. The design shows the cultural spirit and meet the expectation of the owner.
