| DESIGN NAME: Elastic Grille PRIMARY FUNCTION: Storage INSPIRATION: The sense of freedom is the most important inspiration for this product. Everyone has their own way of life. Existing products are always dictating how we use them, rather we want to design a product which users can define its purpose and method, making various possibilities of users. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Elastic Grille collection box redefines the storage method, and the minimalist form can be well integrated into any living, office environment. In the design, the rubber band is deformable and binding, and the inner and surface of the box provide the possibility for the user to take in. However, how to accept and accept what items is freely defined by users according to their own habits and preferences. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: According to their own preferences, users choose the appropriate color of leather tendons. After getting the product, the leather tendons are installed according to the position of the grooves on the metal frame.All three products have the surface of nylon leather tendons, nylon leather tendons can play the role of fixing and binding objects. The inner space of the box can also take in something small placed in pieces, which can be taken out through the leather tendons. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Beijing 2017 in daodun Insight Design Studio and finished in October 15th 2017 in daodun Insight Design Studio. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The inner frame of the Elastic Grille collection box uses the H65-Y copper alloy, which is formed by a bending process. The surface of the box is covered with a non-laced nylon rubber band. The nylon rubber bands with various colors are provided when out of factories, users can assemble according to their own preference. The rubber and metal frame can be packed respectively. When getting the products, users can assemble by themselves. The assembling method is simple and convenient. Uses only need to choose the rubber responding to the grooves of the frame, and can also select double or tri colors according to their preferences SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Elastic grille series includes a small size box, a large size box, and a hub box. Small size box: 100mm x 100mm x 100mm, large size box:90mm x 320mm x 90mm Hub box dimensions: 90mm x 150mm x 90mm. Users can choose different lengths and colors of leather tendons according to their own situation and assemble them by themselves. TAGS: Storage , Stationery , Brass, Concentrator , Pen Holder RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We visited the offices of 10 users who are often buried themselves in work. We found that: 1.When users are working, the work items are placed randomly, resulting in a chaotic distribution of the items. 2.The user hopes that the commonly used items can be placed within reach. We deem that the existing products cannot meet the difference habits of various customers, 3.and many products are places in boxs, the items will block each other, resulting in the inconvenience to take. So in the design positioning, we hope to design a product that allows users to accept, receive a variety of items. CHALLENGE: From the beginning, we wanted to design a product that would take in all the commonly used items, but the way the product was collected varied greatly and it was difficult to get together. Hence how can we take it out and put it back quickly and easily? Finally, we rethought and discussed the principle of the storage, "if the user just throw thing here," "grab them with magnets," "stick things in the sand," and the principle that sand can help stick the items was down to me, then me found the possibility of our ultimate project: sticking items with the tension of a leather band. NAME: DAODUN INSIGHT DESIGN PROFILE: Daodun Insight Design Studio, affiliated with Daodun International Educational Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., is a product design studio focused on simple, environmentally friendly people-oriented concepts. Whist designing products from the perspective of future consumers, it advocates rational consumption and also greatly satisfies the users psychologically. In 2014, Daodun proposed the concept of “Re-Design”, that is, “the defamiliarisation of known things”, which means optimise, enrich and redesign the original traditional products.
