| DESIGN NAME: The Dialogue Clock PRIMARY FUNCTION: Clock INSPIRATION: As in a dialogue between people - there are two different positions: they are changing in time, but they are in the connection with each other. This idea found its reflection in the clock design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The concept of the Dialogue clock is new perspective on Time. There are no arrows: the first disc shows the hour, the second one minutes. The visual language is simplicity and changes of graphic combinations. Time is the common voice of all nations and cultures. The most inspirational goal for the designer is to freshen a view of a simple everyday object. The presented version of the clock design was tested by children of different ages at an international school and they found it very intuitive and were able to easily figure out the time. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Dialogue clock fits naturally into any style of interiors. It can be used both for public and private spaces. Ergonomic forms and monochrome color combination makes it easy to read time from significant distance. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Brussels, Belgium in 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main principle is separation of the mechanism by hours and minutes. The most important limitation for the material is weight, it should be very thin and light. On the other hand, it should be strong to avoid skewing. Taking into consideration these technical details, the proposed material is plastic. It also allows reducing cost of production. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Length is 360 mm, width of the shortest side is 130 mm; the longest side is 170 mm. TAGS: clock, simplicity, graphic combination, minimalism RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Nowadays is time of changes. The simplicity is the main value. Our kids will not write, just talk. They will not read, mostly hear. Do we really expect them to read time by arrows? However, one of our objectives as designers is to create something humane, which invites people to talk to each other, to be in a dialogue. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part was to implement the idea myself, to get deep into the technical details. It was difficult to find the optimal size and weight for discs, for them to not sag.
