DESIGN NAME: The Infinite
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vibrant Reading Structure
INSPIRATION: The Smart Phone dominates the knowledge input to many of Chinese citizens intensively now. The Human perception to the real, self-motivate knowledge seeking between the actual environment of book and virtual imagination are decaying. The Vibrant Reading Structure is aimed to create three latent reading experiences of perceptible, resilient and inhabitable to emerge active process and meaning of knowledge finding in the age of growing global Exosomatization.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: While the citizens are thinking and recalling the knowledge from the book they are free to seeking or sensing relevant space to what they read. In reverse, the citizens may move around at the reading structure of scale multiplicity before they start to read. It implicates the infinite possibilities of discovering the knowledge intensity from different distance, perspective and position emerged by the actual form and space, where transitional and vibrant experiences between the mind and the space are naturally cooperated with an endless reading form to their perpetual and every time new reality.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Postures of reading discovery encounter at multiple scale forms of inhabitable reading space that celebrate the subconscious and free performance of the readers body movements considered as a new living knowledge flow and share while they are in their inner world of reading. The reading space, the floating books pattern language and the readers at this moment become the new creative and transformative entity that is yet to come. Then each reader and their reading condition inherently recreates and transforms the structure to a vibrant living synthesis.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project design started in October 2016 in Hangzhou and finished in January 2017, and was Built in Yuyao in May 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials and Structure: Wooden Structure
Fabrication Techniques:
More than 2000 pieces of all different form of components are produced by Wooden Parts CNC Fabrication in Collaboration with Local Craftsman Carpenter Customization, Then Assembled Globally on Site.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Toal Area: 369 m2
The new structure was re-created on the existing urban commercial concrete box.
The main structure has more than 2000 different scale/form of wooden pieces that are pre-fabricated by CNC and then assembled on site.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This is a design research project that is focused on the reciprocal perception and active knowledge discovery between body movements and architectural form in reading process. It is aimed to to construct the living dynamic reading form that has capacity to exchange reading performance and experience with the knowledge perception and relevant body movements. By iterating possible local reading structure prototypes, the bottom-up approach has been applied to construct the mereology structure.
CHALLENGE: In this project the scale in general for reading need to be re-defined. In this project, the scale is not the mechanical measurement tool or sign to be filled with matter and social function, the scale is being considered as the trans-matter that could co-evolve and co-exist for exchanging the perpetual reading experience with reader imagination and movement that are yet to come. The construction of scale multiplicity of resilient reading form that can be contributing and communicating with imaginative reading discoveries.
