DESIGN NAME: Moovin Card
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Message Service
INSPIRATION: Sometimes words are not enough to express your real thoughts and feelings to the ones you love. On special occasions you want to gift wrap your message to make it exceptional and memorable! Attaching a video message where people can actually see and hear you adds a great value to your present, especially at times when you can not deliver the present in person.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Moovin card is a combination of a hand-written and a video greeting message. It is an innovative greeting card service that allows consumers to create and attach personal photo and video messages to the physical card. It is a new way to deliver feelings, thoughts and emotions that are impossible to express by words alone. A video message created with the Moovin app is linked to the QR code printed in the card. The recipient can access the video simply by scanning the code without installing the app. It is a unique memorable gift that will bring you back in time each time you open it and scan the code inside.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: QR code is already printed inside the Moovin greeting card. After buying the card, user needs to install the Moovin app, scan the QR code with the Moovin app and create a personal video message either by shooting a video on the spot or by adding previously taken photos and videos to the message. It is possible to edit the size and position of the photos and videos, add text, background music and card themed frames. After the message has been uploaded to the server, it is linked to the QR code in the card. The user then can write a small personal message in the moovin card and send the card. The recipient can watch the video message simply by scanning the QR code. There is no expiration date for messages storage on Moovin server. The contents can be accessed as long as the recipient has the physical card with the QR code.It is also possible to share the link to the video on a social network.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2014 in Tokyo, Japan with the establishment of Uxent Inc. The Moovin app was released in March 2016. Moovin card is on sale in Japan since March 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Security: Each physical QR code has a unique URL and a hidden secret key that protects the created contents from any double usage and malicious URL replacement. After QR code is scanned, the data goes to authentication server for approval. Each QR code allows the user to create one unique content. However, by tapping "Scan More" it is possible to additionally scan more QR codes from other cards and use the same video message for multiple cards. The previously created video messages are saved in the history section in the Moovin app and can be linked later to a new physical QR code. Accessibility: iOS 11 has a camera built-in QR code scanner, so iPhone users can simply scan the QR code with their iPhone camera to access the video. Time Storage: There is no expiration date for messages storage on our server. The contents can be accessed as long as the recipient has the physical card with the QR code.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There has long been need for a system that supports personalized greeting messages besides social networks, mobile messenger apps and usual hand-written greeting cards. People rarely share their true feelings with others on social media because they know their messages will be viewed by an unspecified large number of people. Online messages soon get lost among daily messages and vast amounts of shared information. It's really hard to find and read a greeting message from someone important to you after some time. Not to mention that all your data can get lost when quitting the social network or the messenger app. At the same time there are cases when sharing a video with groups of people that don't use social networks or messenger apps (like grandparents or kids) is not so convenient, but a simple handwritten message seems to be failing to completely express all you want to say. This problem inspired us to come up with a "message-wrapping" tool that helps to pass on feelings and thoughts that are hard to convey by text alone in a more effective and long-lasting way. According to Mehrabian's rule, 93% of communication is influenced by face/body language and voice tone. The facial expression, voice and gesture of speakers are recognized in videos and therefore help to create a more heart-felt and strong message. In addition, according to the research conducted by NTT Advertising, today there is a clear tendency for a shift from written to visual communication among young people aged 16-25 years old with 80% of them communicating by posting photos and videos. Besides, the same research shows that around 60% of smartphone users state that they send photos and videos to friends and family on a regular basis. The powerful combination of a tangible thing that you can hold and keep and a video message - realized through Moovin card - brings the greeting card and gifting service to a whole new level.
CHALLENGE: Our main goal was not to simply combine the analog and digital technologies, but to create a valuable tangible thing that will be easy to make and easy to use. We addressed five main issues: 1. Easy access for the recipient. At first, we were considering the AR technology, but rejected this idea mainly due to the video viewing complexity that required the recipient to upload the special app to access the video. QR linking technology on contrary uses the browser instead of the app for video viewing. So, the users simply need to have a smartphone to watch the video. 2. Easy video making process. We managed to make the app where video message creation is operated simply by arranging files lengthways, so even inexperienced users can easily create videos. 3. Security. It was essential for us to make a system that would keep the personal information of the users secured and prevent double usage and malicious URL replacement. We overcame this problem by adding a unique secret code to each QR that makes it impossible to use the code without approval by our authentication server. 4. Long-life. Our main goal was to make a message service that will be a tangible memorable present. Therefore, we have no time storage limit for the messages on our server. They can be accessed as long as the user has the physical card. 5. Great Reach. We were aiming to create a service that will be possible to use by groups of people who aren't active social networks or messenger apps users but still have a smartphone.
