| DESIGN NAME: My Soul PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant INSPIRATION: I chose to create a pendant of a hummingbird because it is a unique and graceful bird. It is so small and has to work hard to survive. A hummingbird is a symbol of strength. It is meaningful to everyone who has been through a lot in life. The hummingbird also represents care, attraction, and happiness in a relationship. I also like the idea that the hummingbird is also an independent bird. Which simply means freedom. Lilies are well known for their long-lasting blooms and magnificent beauty. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The pendant could be utilized as a charm for a bracelet. The design of the pendant has unique smooth and organic topology and high realism of flowers and the bird. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: An innovative digital modeling, 3D printing, together with traditional jewelry making techniques provides a unique opportunity for a designer to incorporate highly realistic forms into jewelry design, which develops a new type of visual arts and contemporary classical design in jewelry production PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in July 2016 and finished in January 2018 in Carlsbad, USA. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The pendants are made by 3D modeling via specialized software. Then the 3D model of the pendant has been printed by a printing The pendants are made by 3D modeling via specialized software. Then the 3D model of the pendant is printed using both a printing machine and a lost wax casting method to cast the wax into a 14K rose gold. The final stage is hand polishing, soldering and setting gemstones on the hummingbird. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 22mm*15mm*25mm 6,5 gr 14Karat rose gold pendant with Sapphires, Citrines, and Pink Tourmalines TAGS: Lilies, Hummingbird, Pendant, Charm, Sapphires, Citrines, Pink Tourmaline, Organic Forms. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to create organic forms, the special application T-Spline, plug-in to Matrox, was studied and utilized. Polishing tools were developed specifically for this project. CHALLENGE: Polishing was and CAD modeling was the most challenging part. Polishing and CAD modeling were the most challenging parts. Numerous of tools and sandblasting techniques were used and developed in order to reach every part of the pendant, especially the buds of the lilies. NAME: Larisa Zolotova PROFILE: Larisa Zolotova has been in the jewelry design business for years, focusing on incorporating unique modern, classical and organic forms into her fine jewelry creations. Her early designs were originally created in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 2013, and later she continued her education to further develop her skills as a jewelry designer at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, CA in 2016. She received a number of national and international awards in jewelry design field. |
