| DESIGN NAME: iClean PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vacuum Cleaner INSPIRATION: iClean is designed with the objective of ultimate performance using minimum effort. It features a robust cleaning technology that tackles both visible and invisible dirt and dust, rendering your home truly clean. iClean aspires to minimize human effort through ergonomic improvisations and innovative features. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: iClean is a vacuum cleaner designed to make everyday life easier, through careful attention to the finer nuances of usability. The unique handle design allows the product to be carried vertically, at the same time being visually well-integrated into the overall form. The compact design is easy to manoeuvre and requires little or no bending. The product also features smart LED indicators, auto-cord-winder feature and quick dust-bag release button. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The unique handle design allows the product to be carried vertically, almost like a briefcase. The compact design is easy to manoeuvre and requires little or no bending. The size and placement of power switch enable convenient foot operation. An Auto Cord Winder mechanism built into the wheel makes storage easy and protects the power cord from external damages. A quick release button makes changing of the dust bag hassle-free, and an indicator alerts the user when it gets filled up. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: iClean is India's first and only metal-bodied vacuum cleaner, that makes it ideal for rugged use. The metal shell (in orange) and plastic parts (in black) are carefully integrated to form a seamless product. The contrast of two materials, further enhanced by the colour scheme, reinforces the motto of ultimate performance using minimum effort. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 207mm x Depth 478mm x Height 258mm TAGS: Ergonomic design, compact design, foot operated, metal body, vacuum cleaner, designed in India RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: Vacuum cleaner is a common appliance seen in most modern homes. The challenge was to redesign the product to solve the finer ergonomic issues that people commonly face, but take for granted. Further, the design team came up with the idea of using a metal body to make it suitable for rugged use. This called for a challenging integration of sheet metal and plastic to give the product a seamless aesthetic.
