| DESIGN NAME: Köllen Tryk PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hanger INSPIRATION: The project emerged from the aim to create a piece designed to fulfil modern habits and explore future trends. The concept behind this design is closely related to interaction and the increasingly presence of digital devices, most of the times controlled through touch control. Tryk evolved from the initial idea of an interactive panel applied to a furniture piece, a functional and everyday product. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Kollen Tryk emerges from an interest in the observation and the way we understand furniture nowadays (and the stiffness it presents). During the design of the product, we have considered its functionality and aesthetics, joining both concepts in order to achieve a hybrid between form and the function it must accomplish. The final result is a piece of interactive furniture which can be adapted to the demands of the users according to the space available and creating new experiences between the user and the piece of furniture. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The cylindrical pieces within Kollen Tryk have two states: they can either be hidden or protruding to the outside. In the latter position, they allow the user to hang anything he/she pleases. The changing states provide the product with an interactivity that gives the user a degree of control over it not often seen in this kind of furniture. The simple action of pushing is the culmination of simplicity, where any user, whatever his or her background is, can interact with the product in a rather unexpected manner. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2016 and was exhibited during the "Milan Design Week 2017" in the "Salone Satellite", within the "Salone del Mobile Milano" (4-9 April 2017). PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Production method: CNC cutting. Materials: - Structure: wood lacquer in white. - Cylindrical buttons: beech solid wood covered with wood plate. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Product measurements: large unit: 800 x 100 x 150 mm small unit: 400 x 100 x 150 mm Weight: large unit: 7 kg small unit: 4 kg TAGS: interactive, modular, multifunctional, functional, decorative, nordicstyle, adaptable, nordic design, design, hanger RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design has been developed thanks to an extensive research on new habits and trends. Focusing on how users relate and interact with digital devices, increasingly present in our living environment, the main objective was transferring this interaction from technological devices to furniture. CHALLENGE: While gathering information in order to develop this project, we were inspired to create a piece designed to fulfil modern habits, particularly as an interior piece. Nowadays, having modern trends and technologies in mind, interaction with the user is what drives all design. This ever-growing interaction with the user can and must be brought to uncharted fields, such as furniture design. That is what ultimately motivated and inspired us to create this product.
