| DESIGN NAME: Humble Hive PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Apartment INSPIRATION: Deriving the inspiration from the clients down to earth approach, simplicity was the underline to this design experiment. Keeping a low key design yet creating warm and charming spaces has been a design tone for this apartment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A simple 2 Bedroom apartment in the hustle bustle of Mumbai Suburbs has been designed as a perfect pause moment. The Apartment Simple yet stylish manages to create warmth with its choice of art an accessories and reflects the Humble nature of the owners. The daughters bedroom with a customised wallpaper brings a fresh breath of warmth to the stained white pine wood furniture custom made. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Enter the home and you are welcomed by the beautiful frangipani leaves brushing its freshness to you. The visual barrier with the full height shelves makes the perfect ante-space before you enter the living room. The living area with two simple sofas complimented by a balcony as an outdoor space adds visual space to the confined sitting area. The yellow square painting with the shelves make a bold statement in the space. The dining zone being a part of the living room stands apart with a backdrop of panelled surface with concealed door leaving no clue of an opening further into the home. The impressive full height doors make way to the bedrooms from this dining wall. The master bedroom has been treated with utmost simplicity. The black and white photograph makes a lasting impression with the brown wall. The teenage daughters bedroom on the other hand has been a splash of vibrance into the space with teal blue and white tinted pine wood. The bed back with a customised wallpaper of a city map well complimented with 'wanderlust PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2017 in Mumbai and was handed over in October 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The height of this apartment was more than the regular apartments and hence needed to be accentuated. The full height panelling with the 9' height doors made a complete space look like one huge panel which ensured the space looked larger than it was. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The apartment admeasures total of 90 Sq.Mt. with two bedroom and one living space with an adjoining dining and balcony area supported with a standalone kitchen space. The derived simplicity was further utilised to showcase a design language with elements that mattered the most. CHALLENGE: Bringing a cultural relevance to this apartment was a challenge during design stage. The clients preferred Ganesha the elephant headed god to be seen when they entered the apartment. This was taken as the cue and a metal wireframe elephant head was abstracted to develop a wall hanging which was seen right from the entrance and sat behind the dining space.
