| DESIGN NAME: Fu Gong PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chinese Restaurant INSPIRATION: The inspiration of this Hong Kong restaurant design was good old Hong Kong port. Fresh red color traditional sail boat is one of feature at old Hong Kong port. And colorful containers are icon of the port and lighted up at night there. These are combined in this restaurant to express port warehouse feel. We tried to put them together due to design Hong Kong restaurant as port warehouse but in modern way. These are transformed into the interior such as bright color brick wall, strong vivid blue color container wall and items such as bicycle wheel art, old Hong Kong photos art feature. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is the restaurant located in Shangri-la Hotel Xiamen. We expressed this city by unique way. This restaurant is located in Hong Kong seaside. We aimed to express the ocean of Xiamen by interior design. The used real scale containers were invited to make this restaurant. These are giving dynamism and strong impression such as the containers not sticking on the wall but such as the feeling you are in port warehouse. At the private dining room, each of the rooms have different artworks on the wall and shelves and these are combination and contrast to the wall luxury wallcovering and bricks. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The large duck oven was set upped at the entrance as welcoming to the guests from the hotel lobby and there is casual show kitchen too. These two kitchens has functionally different characters but each of them make open atmosphere, and attract people. These are one of the function inviting guests to this restaurant. There are not only open dining area at the middle of the restaurant, there are several private dining rooms and semi- private dining rooms, that each of them have different color scheme for as special guests. These areas have furniture-look service stations for their operation. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was completed in November 2017 in Xiamen. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The container was very important material of this project. To bring these so big container in this restaurant, firstly these were dismantled to each piece, and brought to the restaurant. After that, these are reconstructed. In this way, this unique feature was realized, and became one of the most characteristic feature. Also there are red bricks and large wooden beams for the wall and ceiling finish due to make there more Chinese industrial atmosphere. These texture and the materiality help the restaurant casual but at the same time unique luxury type of Hong Kong restaurant. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This restaurant is about 515 square meters, and has 160 seats. TAGS: restaurant, Chinese, port, ocean, luxury, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We focused on what type of Hong Kong restaurant to be suitable to the luxury hotel at the researched about Hongkong’s history. The old Hong kong style is spreaded in all over this restaurant not only materials but also artworks such as monochrome photographic paneling, old traditional ship drawing panel on the wall, even though a woman’s face painting on the brick wall. These all items and element are placed to make restaurant unique but at same time this became a tool to communication our concept to the users. So, you can see old Hong Kong culture and landscape while enjoying the good meal. CHALLENGE: Since we stated the concept for this restaurant as Hong Kong warehouse, we tried to take actual used containers and cut one panel and put them into the restaurant as wall decoration for the materiality. The combination of various blue color like an ocean and vivid red color like a mast of boat are used in this restaurant to express old Hong Kong port. The various blue colors are make you feel ocean, and vivid red color is an accent. We paid an attention to not to become too casual by use the containers. All of materials, colors, and lightnings are selected to keep luxurious in this restaurant.
