DESIGN NAME: Space
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Music Video and VR Experience
INSPIRATION: Space, AI and Robotics have always been a major source of inspiration to me, as well as the song it was created for, "Space" by The City and Horses.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A VR music experience entirely created in VR with TiltBrush. A music video was created to bring the experience to anyone who doesn't have access to VR. It illustrates the Singularity within the SpaceTime Continuum and the Event Horizon of a Black Hole.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user can move around, zoom in and out, explore the intricate inside details of the figure. If the user has no VR access, they can enjoy the otherworldly adventure via the Music Video.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Made in Tokyo in early 2018 in 1 week.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Computer Graphics, 3D Modeling, Texturing, and Rendering Design
|
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Entirely made in VR with TiltBrush. The music video shows the VR experience was filmed in Unity. No post-production effects were used as the goal was to show the VR experience as it really is in VR.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: A VR headset is required to enjoy the VR piece via TiltBrush. This is a 1 week project with no budget. It is my very first VR piece and my first time using either TiltBrush and Unity.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: It illustrates the Singularity within the SpaceTime Continuum, as a Golem/Android type of figure is coming into existence while it contemplates a small sphere that seemingly contains a universe, which is generated from its umbilical-like cord. The end reveals that it is inhabiting a similar sphere which then turns into the event horizon of a black hole. The piece refers as much to the Gravitational/SpaceTime Singularity as to the Technological Singularity with its Android/AI type of figure.
CHALLENGE: VR TiltBrush creations can be very limiting and challenging as it's impossible to create real 3D models, it's more like painting in a VR space. It was difficult to learn to use both TiltBrush and Unity and create 2 final pieces (the VR piece and the music video) all within 1 week.
