DESIGN NAME: The Wanderer
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Travel Kit
INSPIRATION: Cameron was sick of digging around in the dopp kit. He didn't want to leave it open all the time, and the zipper only goes half way around so he was always looking for things. He almost called the hotel and asked for a tray."
The question was then asked
"What if the travel dopp kit was a tray?"
This sparked the original idea of designing a travel dopp kit that converted into a tray to keep items contained.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Wanderer is designed to unfold into a tray, keeping items well contained but easily accessible.
"I needed a way to keep my toiletries easily accessible but not cluttering the sink. I disliked digging deep into traditional dopp kits. So I created The Wanderer to convert directly into a tray to solve these issues."
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Wanderer securely stores toiletries (or intended items), and then folds completely flat into a tray at the destination. This allows complete visibility of items, secure containment, and organization without digging deep into a traditional travel kit.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Wanderer was designed February 2017 and launched publicly May of 2017 in Los Angeles, California.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: All of the research was done through an examination of Cameron and Lindsey's lifestyles and their unique approach to design problem solving. The final designs are the result of rigorous in-field testing on behalf of the designers and early adopters.
CHALLENGE: First, the Wanderer needed to solve a need with a new or unexplored function, while fitting within CALILA core brand values.
Then, the designers focused clean, simple aesthetic. Here, the lines of the product were broken down as driven by the functionality for clean, minimal design.
Finally, the process is finished with construction, testing, and tweaking. Early prototypes were iterated on and used extensively. Finally CALILA conversed with their customers to gain feedback.
Ultimately there is a laser focus on product design each step of the process.
