| DESIGN NAME: Amazonia PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shoes INSPIRATION: Mannta shoes were inspired functionally and aesthetically in the manta ray. The basic of the shoes takes the wings principle of this animal and its envelope function as a way to form a volume. In the constructive part, the origami and its folds are an important part of the project. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mannta Shoes were born in the search to develop shoes that: • Maintain the spirit and technique of the handmade shoe. • Reduce production time while maintaining the quality of the shoe made by hand. • Reduce the number of steps in shoe production. • Use the least number of pieces and thus reduce waste, a very big issue in the manufacture of footwear industry. • Offer great comfort for all types of feet, and providing a unique feeling of space and comfort to young and old people with a sense of design. • Break with the classic aesthetic of the image of shoes, and create a new technique and type of shoe. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Mantta were created as a new alternative of shoes of high comfort, providing to any user from young to old the perfect space for any shape of feet, preventing with this the malformations and feet illness caused by the use of pointy shoes. As well this shoe as it is build using the principle of a moccasin gives to the shoe a high flexibility and a unique feeling of soft envelope to the feet. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The body of the shoe was designed in a more efficient way to be made from one only piece of leather avoiding with this any waste of material, and then folded in six different specific points and then fixed with metal pins avoiding with this as well the use of sewing machines ,reducing the time of making and the use of energy. Finally after the cutting and folding, the shoe is stitched in a similar way of a moccasin shoe with the chosen sole ( in natural krupon, synthetic sole or high heels option) SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The shoes can be made for men and women, from sizes 36 - 47 Average weight per pair: 500 gr. TAGS: responsible design, handmade shoes, footwear design, unique shoes, nature inspired shoes, color is happiness RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Mantta shoes were created after finding a necessity, which is to find a new way to build a shoe in a faster, more efficient way, cleaner way with the less use of sewing machines, glue, parts, the least possible generation of waste, the least steps possible of building. After these requirements we found as the best source of solving all this problems in the nature and the traditional technique of the origami, making around of 8 models and prototypes until find the final functional design which works very well. CHALLENGE: Our biggest challenge was to find through many models and ideas a new way to build a shoe reducing the more possible the steps of construction and the use of parts, that is how we finally found our final design Mantta. Then another difficulty we found was, to convince to the traditional shoemakers that it is possible to break with the image of a classic way of shoe making with our idea, that is how we managed as well to bring new air and visions to this craft. And the finally the biggest challenge now is to show to the public that a shoe can be made and look different than the shoes shape we have in mind and can work perfectly.
