DESIGN NAME: Glueckskind
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Charms
INSPIRATION: The charms belong to the Glueckskind-family. It is jewelry with a baby - symbolising the promise of mutual trust. The symbol of love.
The Charms are an expression of the appreciation of a child who is dear and precious to the wearer of the necklace. This appreciation can also express reminiscence of your own childhood, of one's own inner child.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The charms give physical representation to a very special feeling: The deep connection between a mother and her child.
There are 3 charms:
The first charm hides a baby on the inside: when you wear it the secret is not visible to others. Only the wearer of the charm knows about the baby. The second charm is like a tiny cot for the baby - it snuggles up to the outside of the charm, as visible to everyone as charm three, which has 3 babies at the outside.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The charms are a way of honouring the connection and love to a child. They are a means to preserve these memories, emotionally in the heart as well as physically on the wrist or around the neck.
The rings can be made in any preferred alloy e.g. gold, platinum.
There is the possibility for customization. Two can be engraved outside. Especially in the charm with the baby on the inside offers itself to provide the outside with a gemstone. This could be a diamond or any other gemstone.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: First pieces of Glueckskind jewelry were rings - of course with a baby in- or outside the ring. Now the charms are the next member of the little family.
Prototyypes were exhibited in Munich and in London at Paralax art fair 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: First drafts of the charms originated from sketches. Thereafter, the charms were designed with 3Design, which is a software specifically for jewelry. Additionally 3Shaper was used, which specializes in organic and figurative representations. From the data generated wax models of residue-free wax were printed, using Rapid Prototyping. These were then cast in silver. In the final stage, the charms were hand polished to ensure absolute smoothness.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Diameter app. 12 m x 6 mm
The charms are proper, not to heavy, but also not too airy.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The presentation of the baby is indeed authentic even it is so very very tiny. Individual facial features were deliberately avoided to ensure the symbolic character. For the same reason, the child's sex is not defined.
CHALLENGE: The form-language of the design is naturalistic and simple. A playful or kitschy style was deliberately avoided, to give the wearer the freedom to assign her own emotions and attitudes to the jewelry.
