| DESIGN NAME: MTV Flyp PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cafe and brewery INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the design is derived from the road side cafes and eateries that one comes across. The entire space is inspired from, by the road concept, where your vehicles trucks and containers parked the clearing space in the center of this parking becomes a space for people to sit, eat be merry and perform. The inspiration is derived from the restless energy of the youth. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mtv flyp is an urban cafe and brewery which stays as a co-working space by the day to flyp into a buzzing restaurant with a bar a brewery by the night. The project is designed for the young crowd. This space is done with notion of shows of MTV India and the new music genres in practice these days. The design of such space had to be in line with the abundant restless energy of the youth, where there is disorder, chaos, confusion and anarchy. The intent here thus beings with to create order in disorder, calm in chaos, clarity in confusion and harmony in anarchy. This restaurant is meant and designed for large performances to happen where established and new talent can perform. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Entering in to the space the guest interacts with the merchandise area which is done up in min van kind of a display with more than 1000 Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling to create intrigue. Moving further is the bar counter that denotes the love for music that is MTV, done up with speakers and mics. Adorning the walls are angled bricks with graffiti on them creating a funk style. Further up ahead is the courtyard area that has an openable roof, the courtyard is the main performance area. The bar counter here has been done in an old matador van whereas the stage here is done up in a container parked on top of a truck chassis. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: MTV Flyp is located in sector 26 Chandigarh India, was started in Nov 2106 and completed in april 2017 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The flooring is done in different vitrified tiles along with wooden battens. The walls are cladded with fly ash blocks fixed with a central band that has the bricks in 45 degree orientation to the bricks underneath and above to create an unusual surface. The brick walls have then been given a lacquer coat to maintain hygiene. The ceiling is done in MS perforated sheet with acoustic foam. The bar counter has been cladded with speaker cones with mics working as light fixtures on top of the bar. The outdoor walls have been cladded with container doors on one side and cement punning on the other side with graffiti running on almost all walls. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Project is spread in a total are of 600 sq.mt on a single level with 200 covers TAGS: bar, restaurant, brewpub,pub, cafe, mtv, chandigarh RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A through research was conducted to understand the ethos of MTV, which in inida not just stands for the latest music but also for its themed reality shows which now have a cult following. the feel of the space has been derived from these shows to have an immediate connect with the guest arriving. CHALLENGE: MTV Flyp is foremost a performance space that had to necessarily stay as a co-working space during the day and flyp into a buzzing cafe with performances. Along with this, the space had two distinct areas the enclosed space and the courtyard space that had to be integrated together and create a unitary space all oriented towards the performance stage. The space was hence done in three levels to create a space apt for crowds watching performances.
