| DESIGN NAME: Sputnik PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dining Table INSPIRATION: Inspired by the space race, Sputnik transports you to the time and place where the satellites were the future. Just feel the cold shinny metal and the amazing marble top and imagine yourself out there. The best craftsmanship was combined with top quality materials and unique marble tops making this table a masterpiece. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The table base is made of brass and stainless steel joined in a way that makes it unique. A masterpiece of craftmanship this bases can be used as singular, double or more depending on the top. The tops are made of unique marble stones imported from all around the world. More than just a table Sputnik it's a statement piece, made to impose a message of futuristic sight. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The metal finishes and marble top can be adapted to the client needs. It's a heavy piece to handle alone and should be handled with care both in transport and in assemblage due to the fragile nature of all marbles with large scales. It's not a table just to lay around your items in it, it's a table that makes a futuristic statement in any interior it will be in. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in the end of January of 2017 and was presented at Maison et Objet in September of 2017. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The base of the table combines technology to handcraft with lazer cuts and human dexterity to look like a high scale jewelery. The tops come from left overs of architecture projects. All the metal components are made of inox and them finished with metal coating when needed. To make the tops a CNC was used to make the oval shape but can be different depending on the clients needs. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2400mm X 1200mm X 730mm TAGS: Table, Marble, Sputnik, Statement piece, Portuguese Design, metal RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We knew from the beginning that we wanted the table to be an OIA's first statement piece. Something different than what can be seen out there, that would look strange at first sight, but it would get used to it the more you relate to the piece. All the made research and models were made so the final product would look elegant, futuristic and unique. CHALLENGE: The creative challenge was how to create a statement piece for this minimalistic brand without losing its essence. We wanted to take the best of both the exquisite marbles combined with metals. We came up with the details of spaceships and satellites to create the base of the table that can be used alone or in groups.
