| DESIGN NAME: Magician PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Jewel INSPIRATION: My inspiration comes from the daily life. People deal with work，family and friends every day, our identities also change with a variety of different occasions. To dress appropriately in various occasions, we need different combinations of jewels accessories. The main feature of this work is changeability. The brooch can fit in all occasions and you can save the time for choosing accessories as this brooch can be split into a four-piece suit: a ring, earrings, a necklace, and a brooch. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This brooch applies to both male and female. 95% of it is gold-plated，and the joints are made of 18k gold. It is decorated by Lab-grown diamond and white fritillary. The peculiarity of this brooch is the capability to disassemble and assembled into different type and shapes of jewels (you can always try its new functions). The styles switch between naughty or rigorous as it is unified and coordinated. In other words, you are wearing a brooch, but also a beautiful and pint-sized jewelry box. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This jewel has the advantage of changeable and convenient as its style and number of wearing can be changed with the occasions, be it exaggerated or simple, single or complete set of wear. Its essence lies in leaving the own space for those who wear it to show their attitude. At the same time, its connections and the storage units are very subtle. For example, the chains that can be a single-wear chain are divided into two, stored in the spheres that can be open manually. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This jewelry was created at Grace H Jewelry Studio in December 2017. Patent pending. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This piece of jewelry is handmade with 3D printing technology. First, draw the sketch of each part conceived. Then, make 3D models on the computer, repeatedly debug the location and size of various connection units to ensure the reasonableness and operability. Once identified, the large components are waxed by 3D printing, while the wax on the tiny parts is hand-carved. Then follows processes of casting, soldering, polishing and setting stones. However, in this high-speed society, people may experience many different occasions each day. Changing roles, and different occasions require different combinations of jewel accessories. Sometimes the scene is not suitable for wearing too many jewelries, however, after a split second, you need to be fully armed with them. It is very inconvenient to put odds and ends jewelries in your bag while there is no time for you to go home. So there need a jewelry that can be wore in daily lives and solve the headache of the combination of accessories on different occasions. CHALLENGE: The challenge is how to blend many different accessories into one harmoniously. At the beginning, I just combined the ring and earrings. But I think this is not enough to help people to cope with the different occasions they encountered each day. Then, I further built and hand-painted a lot of different combinations. But I don’t feel that the combinations are harmonious, so I failed them. Then I found out that the breakthrough of the entire work is to move the main stone of the ring from just above to the edge and get paralleled with the ring circle, leveraging the principle of sliding. Xuehui Liu graduated from Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Immersed in the artistic environment of this 90-year-old Art University, Grace developed her special taste for natural beauty and unique perspective of life. “Explicit beauty” is the soul of Grace’ work. Jewelry is normally just an attachment to dressings but it is also the most explicit sign of taste. Grace’s design aims at enabling women to bravely be themselves and show their preferences. One woman, one jewelry, others are just attachments and decorations. |
