INSPIRATION: August 5, 2017, was the 55th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death. This Fine Jewelry Egg is a tribute to her talent and beauty. I was inspired by Richard Avedon picture of Marilyn with ostrich fans in 1957 and Faberge famous jeweled eggs.

The five stars on the top of reminders of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The central part of the object is Marilyn, with ostrich fans performing for the audience. The sculpture of Marilyn could be removed from The Theater and stand alone on her own pedestal.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Researched CAD modeling, hand-made and digital fabrication, such as setting stones, hard and laser soldering, 3D printing, casting, silver plating, and polishing technologies. Printed the full-size prototype with wax and plastic in order to simplify a casting process and pilot the search functionalities, such as smoothness of moving parts, quality of assembly each part, and convenience of taking out inner sculpture.
CHALLENGE: CAD modeling was the most challenging part. None of the existing methods would help to create Marilyn's likeness and the object with moving details. The main aim of creating a mechanism for moving parts was to find the simplest and cleanest solution, which is essential for jewelry production. The plastic prototype helped to test the validity of this solution and to make a decision to divide The Movie Theater Egg into seven parts for casting purposes. Numerous of tools and sandblasting techniques were used and developed in order to reach every part of the sculpture.
