| DESIGN NAME: Eclipse PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: As its name suggests, this ring design was inspired by nature's most amazing and unusual phenomenon eclipse which is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily obscured, either by passing into the shadow of another body or by having another body pass between it and the viewer. The ring is behaving much like the passing moon as it blocks some of the beams behind it. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The ring’s uniqueness comes from its movable triangular black matte titanium plate. The black matte titanium plate ables complete or partial obscuring of a body by another. From the perspective of a person, the ring encourages interaction with the user, and presents a clean, geometric aesthetic. It's also capable of morphing from one simple shape to the next. Positioning of each phase of the triangular black matte titanium plate transform the ring into a new design therefore becomes a new ring. The silver body part symbolizes the orbit, and the movable triangular black matte titanium plate, the planets. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ring has two plates where the rear one is made of silver with a fixed position and the front one is black matte titanium and movable. The user can change the shape by shifting the position of the front plate with their hand. When the front disc covers the rear one completely, the ring look alike a lunar eclipse. The hidden screw at the corner of the silver plate is connected to the black matte titanium plate which ables free scratching while turning in each phase of the eclipse’s expressions. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2017 in Istanbul and finished in February 2018 2010 in Istanbul - Turkey. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ring is finely handcrafted with genuine 925 sterling silver in high polished finish with black matte titanium. A main triangular silverring body and two plates where the rear one is made of silver with a fixed position and the front one is black matte titanium and movable are connected to each other with a hidden screw at the corner. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ring: 2cm Width x 2cm Depth x 2cm Height. Plates: 2cm x 2cm Color: Polished silver, Matte Titanium TAGS: Ring, eclipse, titanium, silver RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for the project started on the phases of an eclipse. CHALLENGE: The most challenging thing for Eclipse ring is thinking creatively and boldly and challenging the existing ring design innovations, shapes, materials and/or functions of the leading ring design creators and producers by designing something truly unique.
