| DESIGN NAME: SITy PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench INSPIRATION: The 3D map defines a small surface for the graffiti art that reflects the culture of the city and provides background for the users to make graphical elements on this map. SITy is designed with the idea of shaping concrete with mould and it is designed as an alternative view to the use of traditional concrete as color, form and texture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Designed for outdoor use, this bench consists of a body, 3 seating units and a 3D map. All parts will be made of concrete. The seating units and the 3d map are white while the other part will remain the traditional concrete colour. The map shows the bank's location and expects the user to understand it. During the usage period, the map will be subject to graphical and visual interventions of the users and will change. The 3d map section can be changed when readability ends. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After the concrete parts forming the bank are produced in moulds and cleaned after production, they are transported to the place where it will be used and they are assembled there. The 3d map is selected according to the place where the bank will be placed and it is put on the bank in the space reserved for it. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Ankara in February 2017 and was completed in January 2018 in Ankara. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Concrete parts can be coloured during production and can be shaped by moulds to get the desired form. The 3D map can be produced using silicon moulds. Maps of public spaces are drawn in grids and visualized in 3D. After the map belonging to the region to be placed is modeled in 3d, the mould is formed and the piece to be placed on the bench is produced. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The size of the bench is designed as a seat for 3 people to sit. Length 210 x Width 60 x Height 45cm TAGS: street, parks, bench, 3d map, living, concrete RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Concrete moulding methods, concrete coloring and CNC applications have been investigated. CHALLENGE: By bringing a new look to the concrete seating units used in simple geometric forms and making a new design using colour, form and texture differences brings creativity to the foreground in this design. NAME: Bülent ÜNAL PROFILE: Bülent Ünal is a graduate of Middle East Technical University, where he received a BA in Industrial Design in between 1989-1993. After his military service, he launched his career in Ankara as a co-founder, general manager and art director of a company specialized in the field of design and advertising in between 1996-2011. In 2011, his expertise on 3D architectural visualization allowed him to include projects in one of the international company ECOU located in Libya for 5 months. In 2013, he received his master degree in the department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Atılım University. After his graduation, he started to the Architecture PhD program of the same University and he has been studied on architectural design. He is an instructor in the Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts Design and Architecture at Atılım University since 2013. He is married and a father of one. |
