| DESIGN NAME: Traffic Light System PRIMARY FUNCTION: Managing optimisation for Traffic Lights INSPIRATION: We live in modern world with it`s great intensity of modernisation nearly in all aspects of our life. But it seems like such important product as traffic light has not been modernised for a while. Almost for a century. If it`s absolutely unimprovable? Definitely not! During the project I have realised how deep, complicated and nontrivial it is. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Representation of traffic light is totally took root in people`s mind. So the main task was to rethink the people`s interaction with such simple from a first glance YET complicated in all aspects of such product as traffic light. And the formula is a harmony between such main aspects as utility, functionality and aesthetics. Idea of the work is to improve people`s quality of life by providing themthem with better product which could make their life safer and make their driving experience better OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started autumn 2016 and finished in February 2017. Took Grand-Prix of Lexus Design Awards Russia Top Choice 2017 and became a panel finalist of Lexus Design Award 2017. Was honoured as future maker during Global Innovator Conference and ShenZhen in autumn 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Used LED and OLED technologies in terms of providing sleek and functional design. Metal basement plus plastic cover with high attention to details and it`s connections. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: traffic, light, system, innovation, future RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Traffic light system is one of the most powerful, popular and useful systems we get used to for the last century. However, such a main aspect has not it`s clear design and function in comparison to different countries and even cities. Moreover, in modern world it`s clearly possible to modernise the current system in terms of providing drivers and pedestrians with better opportunities, more intuitive design which could make our life safer and make our cityscapes much more pleased to the eyes. CHALLENGE: People get used to understand traffic lights for almost a century and it`s really difficult to make any changes which won't go in contradiction with current habits. At the same time it have to be revolutionary modernised. That`s why the overall design we prefer to call as progressive evolution of traffic light system.
