| DESIGN NAME: Mod Makeup Academy PRIMARY FUNCTION: Makeup Academy and Studio INSPIRATION: Inspired by the organic form of beauty from the mother nature, various elements of nature like stone and solid wood massivholz is adopted, highlighting simplicity. The ambience of Zen is created. It is to remind the users that skills, ingenuity and artistry should only be required with a focused mind and a pure heart. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: State-of-art multi-functional studio for professional makeup and styling training, which incorporate SMART systems to maximize the efficiency in utilization of space and energy. Custom-made interior settings and designer furniture grants high adaptability to the instant change of setting. It provides an optimal venue for professional makeup artists to be nurtured, accessible to all utensils, gear as well as valuable lectures and coaching sessions. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The studio is equipped with a welcoming reception area, administration office, sufficient workshop and studio, dressing rooms and storage. The two interconnected studio spaces emphasizes on communication and connectivity between students and teaching staff of the academy. The simple setting throughout the space allows practical operation of makeup and styling practices, eradicating the extravagant stereotype of product placement of average makeup and styling schools. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in mid-2017 and completed in September, 2017, at 19/F , Glory Centre , 8 Hillwood Road ,Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In terms of lighting, changeable LED panels are used to mimic different occasions for makeup artists to work with, smart glass and mirrors are embedded onto all walls of the studio, which also serve as illustration boards and concept development. SMART systems are used to project demonstration and teaching materials. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Tailor-made for the main users i.e. professional makeup artists in training, a balance is struck between the aesthetics and functionality of the space. Geometric lines and shapes, pixels, light and shadow, texture and materials are manipulated to highlight the exquisite artistry of the makeup artists. The foyer is skillfully arranged diagonally opposite to the entrance, to heighten sense of special perception. TAGS: makeup studio, makeup academy, education, professional training, lecture, workshop, art, beauty, fashion RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Thorough interview was conducted with the client, knowing their needs for displaying various smart technologies, high-tech solutions, product and services. CHALLENGE: Integrating enormous amount of textures and material into the space, striking visual balance is a challenge. The designers have to put lighting, colors, texture into consideration throughout the process. Suitable display of clients' products are taken great care of, balancing aesthetics and commercial value.
