PRIMARY FUNCTION:
IoT customer feedback device.

INSPIRATION:
The design was inspired by its form; as its packed full of technology it was essentially that it appeared cosmetically friendly and not technologically threatening. The purpose of the device is to obtain user feedback from a variety of demographics and it was therefore necessary to have a product that was user friendly to a whole spectrum of users. We wanted to retain an analogue interaction, therefore, the rotate and push function was a key driver in how the device would look and perform

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Twistar helps businesses engage with their customers rapidly and effectively, allowing a greater understanding of a customer’s sentiment and perception. Twistar is the first portable IoT device capable of taking Voice and Artificial Intelligence 'into the moment’. The device features a simple rotate and push dial with a circular screen angled toward the user for ease of use. The device was aesthetically designed to be approachable and creating “open table” environment.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Twistar is a simple, palm based product that allows users to convey feedback on service received, quickly and efficiently. Twistar features a rotary dial running around the outside of the product, with a LCD display system held within the centre which communicates questions to the user. Users respond to the questions by rotating the dial left to right, and pushing, as a means of responding. The user is asked a range of questions regarding their overall experience.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Following a two-year long development process and designed and built by a global team across Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Twistar features two inner core plastic chassis which hold the battery, pcbs, lcd modules and optical sensors in place. The lower section is machined stainless steel or copper, which acts as a heatsink as well as the benefit of adding weight to the product. The dial is designed in two sections, an inner bearing surface and an outer ring, which can be treated with wooden or rubber bezels and other customisation for a bespoke offering. The device also features unique internal componentry, consisting of an internal T-spring mechanism which provides resistance for the push function.

91.3mm diameter and only 33mm at its highest point.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Our research and inspiration came form putting ourselves in the users place and creating a product that would invite people to provide feedback in a way that was fun and engaging to do. The ergonomics of the product were designed to be aesthetically pleasing and feature soft curves, an angled tilt to the screen and an adaptable choice of rich materials which added weight to the product. The user interface was purposefully designed to be intuitive, sensory and with minimal time and effort, whilst being entirely customisable.

CHALLENGE:
Mechanical prototypes SLAs and CNC models were made, presentation models were made, working prototypes, mechanical optical drive prototypes were made, click and function springs designed and operated on, ergonomic sizes on scale form and pressure were undertaken. Real life test models were put under user and user research findings and data gathering.
