| DESIGN NAME: Filou & Friends PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shop design INSPIRATION: In the past, the store concept of Filou & Friends was very practical with only one specific corner, a ball pool, intended for the children. In the new concept we wanted to put the child at the center and make it feel at home everywhere. The metal and rubber structures refer to playground equipment that every child has to deal with. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Flexibility is at the heart of the concept FIVE AM created for Filou & Friends’ new stores. More than a simple kids’ corner, the entire shop now revolves around a unique language, taken directly out of children’s imagination. FIVE AM came up with the idea of having a rail following the contours of the store. This rail works as a link to the metal playgrounds and work areas, which can take up different functions. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shop can easily be transformed by the staff. They can add hanging rods, move the storage ladders,... according to the collection or sale at the moment. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The shop design took almost 1 year. The construction took 1,5 months. The shop is located in Waregem, Belgium. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The rail is made from a metal tube where we can attach several extra metal elements onto. The rubber volumes are made of mdf which received a rubber cover (flooring rubber from Nora) afterwards. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 75 m2 TAGS: shop, retail, concept, children RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We made a lot of prototypes of the rail system. In the beginning the overall look and finish was very hard and robust. As their clothes are nothing like that, we designed the system as light and subtile possible. CHALLENGE: The hardest part was designing a system or concept that made our client to be able to change the shop interior every season, collection or sale period without the need of a classic retail rack system. We wanted to make the system unique for Filou & Friends.
